Armored Paws is a game drop released on April 23, 2024, as Java Edition 1.20.5 and Bedrock Edition 1.20.80.[1] It focuses on adding content voted for during Minecraft Live 2023 by adding armadillos, wolf armor, and 8 new wolf variants. Armadillos spawn in badlands, savannas, and their variants. They can be brushed for armadillo scutes, which can be crafted into wolf armor. The new wolf variants spawn in various biomes, including three biomes that wolves did not spawn in before: savanna plateau, sparse jungle, and wooded badlands.
Additions
Items
- Obtained as an occasional drop from armadillos, or from using a brush on an armadillo.
- Used to spawn an armadillo.
- Crafted using six armadillo scutes shaped like a lowercase h.
- Using it on wolves grants them immunity from most damage sources.
- Gradually breaks with each attack.
- Can be repaired using armadillo scutes.
- Can also be removed by using shears.
- Like leather armor and leather horse armor, wolf armor can be dyed.
Mobs
- Spawns in badlands and savanna biomes.
- Rolls up when hurt or scared by undead mobs or by players sprinting, mounted, or on a vehicle.
- Occasionally drops an armadillo scute every 5 to 10 minutes.
- Can also use a brush to drop an armadillo scute, using its durability.
- Can be bred with spider eyes.
The wolf now has 9 variants, including the original wolf:
Ashen Wolf
- Spawns in snowy taiga.
Black Wolf
- Spawns in old growth pine taiga.
Chestnut Wolf
- Spawns in old growth spruce taiga.
Pale Wolf
- Spawns in taiga.
Rusty Wolf
- Spawns in sparse jungle.
- Can also appear in jungle or bamboo jungle if spawned using spawn eggs, monster spawners, commands, or through a wolf pack bordering the biome.
Snowy Wolf
- Spawns in grove.
Spotted Wolf
- Spawns in savanna plateau.
- Can also appear in savanna or windswept savanna if spawned using spawn eggs, monster spawners, commands, or through a wolf pack bordering the biome.
Striped Wolf
- Spawns in wooded badlands.
- Can also appear in badlands and eroded badlands if spawned using spawn eggs, monster spawners, commands, or through a wolf pack bordering the biome.
Woods Wolf
- Spawns in forest.
- All existing wolves in a world continue to be pale wolves.

Items
- Renamed to "Turtle Scute".
Mobs
Spider and Cave Spider
- Are now scared of armadillos that are not in a rolled up state.
Tamed Wolf
- Changed collar texture.
- Increase maximum health from 20HP

× 10 to 40HP × 20. Preexisting Tamed Wolves need to be fed to reach the new maximum health. - Doubled the health restored by each item when it is fed.
