Non-mob entities

This feature is exclusive to Java Edition.

Mannequin

  • A technical entity, basically a player avatar without a connected player.
  • Function as living entities, like armor stands.
    • They can hold and wear equipment, have attributes & effects, take damage, etc.
  • Data Fields:
    • profile - Which profile to show on the entity. This is either a Player profile (same format as a minecraft:profile component) or a Mannequin profile with the following fields:
      • texture - Namespaced ID of the skin texture to use.
        • The skin is specified relative to the textures folder and with a .png suffix.
        • e.g. entity/player/wide/steve will use the default wide Steve skin.
      • cape - Optional namespaced ID of the cape texture to use.
        • When specified, uses the same format as the texture field.
        • Omitting this field means the mannequin has no cape.
      • elytra - Optional namespaced ID of the elytra texture to use.
        • When specified, uses the same format as the texture field.
        • Omitting this field means the mannequin uses the cape texture, or if that is also omitted, the default elytra texture when wearing elytra.
      • model - Optional model type, one of wide and slim.
        • If omitted, wide is used.
    • hidden_layers - List of outer skin layers to hide.
      • Valid entries: cape, jacket, left_sleeve, right_sleeve, left_pants_leg, right_pants_leg, hat.
    • main_hand - Which hand is the main hand of the mannequin.
      • One of left and right.
    • pose - The pose of the mannequin.
      • Valid entries: standing, crouching, swimming, fall_flying, sleeping
    • immovable - Optional boolean specifying that the mannequin cannot be moved (defaults to false).
    • description - Optional text component shown where a Player's below_score score would show.
      • The default "NPC" (entity.minecraft.mannequin.label) text is shown if omitted.
    • hide_description - Optional boolean specifying that no description should be shown at all.
      • A mannequin with the description hidden displays as if a Player had no below_score display.

Graphics

An End flash.

End sky

  • Added the End flash to Java Edition which makes the sky periodically emit purple glow and play various sounds. These were previously only in Bedrock Edition with Vibrant Visuals enabled.
    • Block lighting becomes purple tinted during the flash, which is more noticeable on lower brightness settings.
    • There is a 30 second delay between flashes.
    • Each flash lasts between 5 and 19 seconds.
    • While the ender dragon fog effect is active the flash source in the sky is not visible and the brightness of the light affecting the world is reduced.

Options

Debug screen (F3) customization

This feature is exclusive to Java Edition.

  • The debug screen (F3 screen) can now be customized by pressing F3 + F6 to open an option menu.
  • Specific elements can be toggled on and off by choosing between three options: "OFF", "In F3", and "Always"
    • "OFF" removes the given element from the F3 screen. It will remain in this option menu though.
    • "In F3" adds the given element to the F3 screen.
    • "Always" causes the given element to display on-screen even when the F3 screen is not open.
    • Any elements that are left on will be sorted to minimize screen clutter. So:
      • All "Always" elements will be sorted and appear on the screen constantly when the F3 screen is off.
      • All "In F3" elements and all "Always" elements will be sorted and appear together on the F3 screen.
  • The F3 screen can now be toggled on and off in any menu in the game. i.e. the pause screen, the title screen, the loading screen, and everywhere else.
    • All "Always" elements will also appear on all menus in the game, constantly.
    • An element will not display if the data it needs does not exist. For example, the player position will not display when not in a world.

Quotes

Copper was first discovered in the Overworld back in 2021 with the Caves & Cliffs Update and got decorative features added with the Tricky Trials Update in 2024, but after years of stocking up on this abundant metal and wondering if there could be more ways to use copper, we've finally cracked it! It’s almost like we’re entering a new Minecraft era??
