Lunge is an enchantment applied to spears that causes jab attacks to propel the wielder forward horizontally. When used, Lunge consumes saturation and hunger at an amount dependent on the enchantment level, as well as 1 durability. The distance gained from Lunge is increased when in midair.
Obtaining
Lunge can be obtained through an enchanting table by enchanting a spear or a book, or by trading with a librarian of any levelβ[until Villager Trade Rebalance], or from fishing.
Usage
Lunge propels the wielder forward, providing an instant momentum boost of blocks per tick in the direction they are facing alongside elevating the player approximately 0.25 blocks[verify] whenever they perform a jab attack, at the cost of causing exhaustion gained (for players only) and 1 additional durability loss. This equates to:
- Level I: 0.458 blocks per tick (9.16 blocks per second), at the cost of 1 () and 1 durability.
- Level II: 0.916 blocks per tick (18.32 blocks per second), at the cost of 2 () and 1 durability.
- Level III: 1.374 blocks per tick (27.48 blocks per second), at the cost of 3 () and 1 durability.
For players, Lunge consumes saturation points first, and then hunger points after. Lunge can only be activated if the wielder has 6 () or more hunger points in their hunger bar (i.e. they can sprint). This equates to:
- 34 lunges with max saturation[note 1] at level I.
- 17 lunges with max saturation at level II.
- 12 lunges with max saturation at level III.
Non-player mobs do not have hunger, so Lunge will always activate whenever they perform jab attacks, with the only cost being durability. However, zombies, zombie villagers, husks, and piglinsβ[Bedrock Edition only] only perform charge attacks, and therefore will never activate Lunge. Mobs use Lunge-enchanted spears in exactly the same way they use non-Lunge spears; i.e. only in melee range and never for mobility.
The distance traveled using Lunge is maximized if the wielder looks directly horizontal when they activate it, as the vertical component of Lunge's momentum boost is cancelled before it is applied to the wielder. Additionally, using Lunge midair propels the wielder significantly farther than on the ground. Lunge will not activate if the wielder is riding a mount or vehicle, gliding with elytra, touching water or, if the wielder is a player, has 5 or fewer hunger points.
Lunge has no effect on a spear's charge attack.

Trivia
- Because hunger cannot be depleted in Peaceful difficulty, the Lunge enchantment can be used infinitely as long as it has sufficient durability.
