Sweeping Edge is an enchantment applied to swords that increases sweep attack damage. This only affects the damage of the sweep attack against other surrounding entities, and does not increase damage against the attacked entity itself. Sweeping Edge is not required to do sweep attacks, as swords have the ability innately.‌[until JE Combat Tests]

Obtaining

Sweeping Edge can be obtained from enchantment tables. Enchanted books with Sweeping Edge can be obtained by fishing, from monster room chests, from librarian villagers, and as non-village structure loot.

Usage

Sweeping Edge increases sweep attack damage by 50%/67%/75% of the sword's attack damage for levels I/II/III. Sweeping Edge is not required to do sweep attacks, as swords have the ability innately. Sweep attacks activate when a player standing on the ground attacks while not sprinting with an attack cooldown at 84.8% or above. The sweep attack damages surrounding entities that are within a 1 by 0.25 by 1 block area of the attacked entity, dealing 1HP💔 and knocking them back. Sweep attacks do not increase damage against the attacked entity, only the surrounding entities, and Sweeping Edge does not change this.

Damage

The formula for sweep attack damage is: 1 + Attack_Damage × (Sweeping_Edge_Level / (Sweeping_Edge_Level + 1)), rounded to the nearest integer. Here, Attack_Damage is the sword's damage after applying Sharpness, Smite, and Bane of Arthropods. For example, an iron sword enchanted only with Sweeping Edge I deals 1 + 6 × (1 / (1 + 1)) = 4HP❤️❤️ damage to each mob hit with a sweep attack. A diamond sword enchanted with Sharpness V and Sweeping Edge III deals 1 + 10 × (3 / (3 + 1)) = 8.5HP❤️ × 4.25 sweep damage. Any sword without Sweeping Edge deals 1 + Attack_Damage × (0 / (0 + 1)) = 1HP💔 sweep damage. Extra damage from Smite and Bane of Arthropods is applied against undead mobs and arthropod mobs, respectively.

Higher levels than Sweeping Edge III (obtainable via the use of commands or third party editors) are processed following the formula above. The sweeping damage ratio caps at +1 (100% of the sword's base damage), which is achieveable with an enchantment level of 199.
