Sharpness is an enchantment applied to swords, spears[upcoming Mounts of Mayhem] and axes that increases melee damage.
Obtaining
Sharpness can be obtained from enchantment tables, drops from mobs that have spawned in a raid[Bedrock Edition only], books obtained by fishing, monster room chests, librarian villagers, and non-village structure loot.
Only golden weapons can receive Sharpness V directly through the enchanting table. For all other weapon tiers (wooden, stone, iron, diamond, and netherite), an anvil is required to apply Sharpness V to them, though iron and diamond swords can generate with Sharpness V in end city and bastion remnant chests and iron axes with Sharpness V can be found in trial chambers barrels.
Usage
In Java Edition, Sharpness adds 1HP extra damage for the first level and 0.5HP × 0.25 for all subsequent levels, using the formula 0.5 * level + 0.5.
In Bedrock Edition, Sharpness adds 1HP extra damage for the first three levels, 2HP extra damage for the fourth level, and 1HP extra damage for the fifth level, using the formula 1.25 * level, where the value is always rounded down.
Damage per hit
These tables detail how much damage is done per attack based on the level of enchantment used, assuming the target is not wearing armor and the attack is fully charged.[Java Edition only]

Specific cases
If Sharpness is applied to a trident by use of commands or an anvil in Creative, the enchantment boosts the weapon's projectile damage, rather than Power having this effect. If Sharpness is applied to a bow by use of commands or an anvil in Creative, the enchantment boosts the damage of the weapon's arrows. If Sharpness is applied to a crossbow by use of commands or an anvil in Creative, the enchantment boosts the damage of the weapon's arrows but not its firework rockets.
Incompatibilities
Sharpness is incompatible with Smite, Bane of Arthropods, and Cleaving.[upcoming JE Combat Tests] It is also incompatible with Impaling, Density, and Breach, however in Survival these incompatibilities cannot be encountered, as no weapon types have access to both Sharpness and Impaling/Density/Breach. If commands are used to have two or more of these enchantments on the same item, their effects stack.[Java Edition only]
