Description This Trainer loves Pokémon and adventure. He continues to train in the Alola island challenge, and his skills have even gained him recognition from Professor Kukui.

Elio (Japanese: ヨウ ) is a Pokémon Trainer in Pokémon Masters EX, based on the character of the same name in the core series games. He forms a sync pair with Popplio and its Evolutions, Brionne and Primarina. This sync pair can be obtained through the general sync pair scout and was first made available on April 17, 2021 alongside the story event Trials on the Isle. Elio also forms a sync pair with Espeon. This sync pair can be obtained through variety sync pair scouts and was first made available on November 21, 2023 Eevee Day Celebration! event Eevee Tales. The pair's potential can be raised to 6★ EX since it first released, though it lacks an EX style.

Elio in his Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon attire forms a sync pair with Stakataka. This sync pair can be obtained through Poké Fair sync pair scouts and was first made available on July 31, 2024 alongside the story event Ultra Beast Meet-and-Greet. The pair's potential can be raised to 6★ EX since it first released, which unlocks Elio (Alt.)'s EX style.

Elio in his Neo Champion attire forms a sync pair with Shiny Dusk Mane Necrozma. This pair can be obtained through Master Fair sync pair scouts and was first made available on May 30, 2025 alongside the Neo Champions event Shining Sky-High Sync Moves. This pair's potential can be raised to 6★ EX since it first released, which unlocks Elio (Champion)'s EX style.

Trivia

  • Elio is the only main character who has never appeared in an event story without his opposite-gender counterpart.
  • Elio and Selene are one of two pairs of protagonists where it is unknown which one is based on the player character from their games of origin, the other being Chase and Elaine.
  • In the story event Galar's Poké Ball Enthusiast, it is confirmed that Elio knows that Professor Kukui is the Masked Royal.
    • This was first implied in the Countdown 2021 log-in bonus, where Elio starts to address the Masked Royal as "Professor" before catching himself.
  • In the Eevee Day Celebration! event Eevee Tales, Elio reveals that he first met his Espeon as an Eevee near Paniola Town.
  • All versions of Elio use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon). Those Trainers include Selene, Hau, Lillie, Gladion, Hala, Olivia, Nanu, Hapu, Professor Kukui (but not the Masked Royal), and Samson Oak.
    • Elio also uses special voice-over lines upon winning a battle with Selene, Hau, Lillie, Gladion, or Samson Oak in the same team.

Origin

Elio's design is based on his appearance in Pokémon Sun and Moon. Popplio is one of the first partner Pokémon of Alola in the core series games. Popplio, Brionne, and Primarina's Dex entries come from Pokémon Ultra Sun.

Elio's Espeon may be based on the Eevee that can be obtained as an Egg from an unnamed Pokémon Breeder at Paniola Ranch. Espeon is also known as the Sun Pokémon, which matches Elio's name origin of Helios, the Greek god of the sun, as well as Elio being one of the potential main characters of Pokémon Sun. Espeon's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.

Elio's Alt. outfit design is based on his appearance in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Stakataka is one of the Ultra Beasts, which is caught by the player during the post-game of Pokémon Ultra Moon. In addition, Elio's Pokémon Adventures counterpart owns a Stakataka. Stakataka's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.

Necrozma is a Legendary Pokémon that is encountered and potentially caught by the player during the story of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Dusk Mane Necrozma's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.
