Focus on the Shining Shot! (Japanese: 狙え！キラメキの１枚！ Focus! A Shining Photo!) was a story event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pairs Viola (Holiday 2023) & Vivillon and Sycamore (Holiday 2023) & Gogoat.
During this event, players could earn two types of tickets from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra tickets were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.
The player could battle using Viola (Holiday 2023) & Vivillon or Sycamore (Holiday 2023) & Gogoat to obtain +0.6× bonus tickets; Jasmine (Holiday 2022) & Ampharos, Whitney (Holiday 2022) & Sawsbuck, Leon (Holiday 2021) & Calyrex, Nessa (Holiday 2021) & Eiscue, Skyla (Holiday 2020) & Togekiss, Erika (Holiday 2020) & Comfey, Rosa (Holiday 2019) & Delibird, or Siebold (Holiday 2019) & Octillery to obtain +0.4× bonus tickets; and any unlisted Ice-type sync pairs to obtain +0.2× bonus tickets.
This event featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas with teams using various theme skills, earning medals and other rewards.
In addition, players could earn a medal for completing all the story areas in the event.
First run
The event first ran from December 12 to 27, 2023. The "Viola Seasonal Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Viola (Holiday 2023) & Vivillon for the duration of the event, and the "Sycamore Seasonal Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Sycamore (Holiday 2023) & Gogoat starting on December 14, 2023, and lasting until the end of the event.
In this run, the types of tickets players could earn were Winter Ticket A and Winter Ticket A+. Event mission rewards included Gems, Battle Points, medals, a Tech Move Candy Coin, and a Field Move Candy Coin.
Second run
The event reran from December 17, 2024 to January 4, 2025. The "Super Spotlight Seasonal Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Viola (Holiday 2023) & Vivillon, Sycamore (Holiday 2023) & Gogoat, Jasmine (Holiday 2022) & Ampharos, Whitney (Holiday 2022) & Sawsbuck, Leon (Holiday 2021) & Calyrex, Nessa (Holiday 2021) & Eiscue, Skyla (Holiday 2020) & Togekiss, Erika (Holiday 2020) & Comfey, Rosa (Holiday 2019) & Delibird, and Siebold (Holiday 2019) & Octillery for the duration of the event.
In this run, the types of tickets players could earn were Winter Ticket B and Winter Ticket B+. Event missions were changed to award only medals and Gems.
Plot
In a snowy town, Lear announces that there will be a photo contest at this year's winter party. Participants need to take a photo at the party and submit it to him. Since this means attendees can be photographed at any time, he advises that they dress up for the occasion. Viola and Professor Sycamore are excited to participate in the photo contest, so the two of them both decide to put on special outfits for the party.
On the day of the winter party, Professor Sycamore arrives with Trevor, Tierno, Shauna, Calem, and Serena. Trevor notices Valerie looking picturesque with her Sylveon, so Professor Sycamore tries to take a picture of them, but they walk away before he can get his camera ready. The kids giggle at Professor Sycamore's clumsiness, and Viola snaps a photo of them. Tierno asks Viola for tips on taking a good photo, and she says that the best photos are taken when the photographer and subject are natural. Professor Sycamore asks her for more tips, and she obliges, delighted that everyone is so interested in photography. Viola compliments Professor Sycamore on his outfit, and Shauna adds that she and Serena helped him style his hair. Professor Sycamore compliments Viola on her outfit, and she explains that she got advice from Valerie about what to wear and brought along an Icy Snow Pattern Vivillon that she met a long time ago while taking photos on a snowy mountain. She thinks other people will have brought along different partner Pokémon than usual, too, so she, Professor Sycamore, and the kids get ready to look for the perfect shot.
By the big tree, the group finds Whitney, Jasmine, and Erika struggling to take a good photo, as Jasmine keeps getting nervous on camera and her smile stiffens up. Erika then notices Professor Sycamore's Gogoat, who greets Whitney's Sawsbuck by touching its horns. The group talks about Gogoat for a bit, and when Calem and Serena mention the Gogoat Shuttle, Whitney gets the idea to take a picture of Jasmine riding Gogoat. Jasmine agrees to give it a try, but asks Gogoat to go slowly. To her dismay, Gogoat speeds off as soon as she gets on its back.
Elsewhere, Raihan takes a photo of himself with Sonia, Leon, Gloria, Hop, Victor, and Nessa, but Sonia gets mad about how it turns out because Raihan's face takes up most of the frame. Viola and the others arrive, and Sonia asks them to take a picture of their whole group so everyone is equally visible. Viola agrees, asking Vivillon to assist her with the lighting. However, after Viola takes the picture, Hop and Nessa realize that they can't submit a photo for the contest that someone else took, so all they've done is taken a group photo together. Later, Viola comes across Professor Sycamore talking to Professor Oak and Cynthia and snaps a photo of them. Then, Skyla, Elesa, and Serena are chatting while Tierno dances nearby for Trevor, Shauna, and Calem. Professor Sycamore prepares to take a picture of them, but he's distracted from the photo op by a Youngster's Klefki, Fletchling, and Swirlix.
Before he can get back to the shot, he smells something pleasant. So, he leads the kids to Lear's villa, where they're giving out coffee. Calem and Serena are impressed that he managed to smell the coffee from so far away, and Professor Sycamore invites them all to take a break. Rosa and Siebold are among the group of people getting coffee, so Viola starts snapping pictures of them. Professor Sycamore, standing back and watching the scene, remembers Viola's advice about the subject being natural, so he takes a picture of Viola and Vivillon taking pictures together. Days later, the kids congratulate Professor Sycamore on winning the contest with his picture. Viola doesn't know how to feel, since she lost the contest but she was the subject of the winning photo. Valerie says she looked very charming in the photo, and Viola realizes that she doesn't have a lot of experience with having her photo taken. Professor Sycamore says that he wants to keep taking photos of memorable moments in his daily life, and Viola is happy that more people are discovering the joys of photography.
