We Should Battle! (Japanese: 戦ろう　ポケモン勝負！ Let's Fight, Pokémon Battle!) was a story event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pair Nemona & Pawmot.

First run

The event first ran from August 8 to 28, 2023. The "Nemona Poké Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Nemona & Pawmot for the duration of the event. A special splash screen featuring artwork of Nemona & Pawmot appeared while starting up the game for the duration of this scout.

In this run, players could earn Event Vouchers B from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.

The player could battle using Nemona & Pawmot to obtain +0.6× bonus vouchers; Bede & Hatterene, Hilda & Tepig/Pignite/Emboar, or Hilbert & Oshawott/Dewott/Samurott to obtain +0.4× bonus vouchers; and any unlisted sync pairs with the Main Character or Rival theme skills to obtain +0.2× bonus vouchers.

This run featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas with teams using various theme skills, earning medals and other rewards.

In addition, players could earn a medal for completing all the story areas in the event.

Second run

The event reran from September 8 to 22, 2024 as a part of the Five-Year Anniversary Rerun Event. This run only contained the story areas; the vouchers and battle areas did not return. In addition, no missions were available, and no medals could be earned.

Plot

In Centra City, a crowd gathers around to watch Nemona and her Pawmot defeat a Trainer and his Makuhita. She asks if anyone in the crowd would like to battle her next, but they are all too intimidated by her skill. As Nemona begins to look disappointed, a voice calls out and accepts her invitation to battle. She turns to see Blue and his Blastoise, and is excited to fight against them. Before she can, Bede interrupts, wanting to challenge her before him. When Bede and Blue debate about who should go first, Nemona assumes they will be having a three-way battle.

Cheren approaches as the three begin their fight. Seeing Nemona's passion for Pokémon battles, he is reminded of a certain Trainer he knows. After the battle, Nemona enthuses over the others' skill. Bede boasts about his title of Neo Champion, prompting Blue to explain what that means to Nemona. Nemona is reminded of Paldea's Champion Assessment and reveals to the others that she is also a Champion. She is eager to battle more Trainers, and Blue explains the three-on-three battle system of Pasio. Nemona asks the two to join her on a team of three. Blue declines, telling Nemona he has someone in mind for her to battle, and that he looks forward to facing off against her when they meet. After saying goodbye to Blue, Nemona asks Bede to join her team. Bede tries to decline, but Nemona refuses to take no for an answer, causing him to annoyedly agree. As she begins to wonder about who the third member of their team will be, Cheren walks over to recommend someone.

Nemona and Bede follow Cheren to Hilda and Hilbert, who are talking in the city. Before Cheren can introduce them, Hilda sends out her Emboar, ready to battle. Nemona excitedly sends out Pawmot, and Hilbert is shocked to see the two already battling. As the two happily fight against each other, a crowd forms around them. When two Sightseers in the crowd begin to doubt their own strength, Nemona and Hilda reassure them that having fun is more important than being a good battler. Nemona then asks Hilda to join her team, and she accepts. Now on a team, Nemona, Hilda, and Bede battle and win against the Sightseers and a Preschooler.

Later, Nemona, Bede, Hilda, Hilbert, and Cheren are summoned to Lear's villa. As Nemona begins to wonder if they're all in trouble for having too many battles, Lear enters with Rachel and Sawyer. Lear reveals that per Blue's suggestion, he plans to hold a tournament on Pasio for strong Trainers. He invites Nemona, and she gleefully accepts.

The day of the tournament arrives, and Nemona, Bede, and Hilda battle their way through teams of Trainers. When it's time for the semifinals, they are surprised to see that their next opponents are Lear, Cheren, and Hilbert. Working together, they defeat Lear's team and head to the finals.

Nemona, Bede, and Hilda see that their last opponents are Blue, Leaf, and Red, dressed in their sygna suits. They excitedly begin their battle, exchanging powerful blows with Blue's team. Despite their strength, a single attack from Red's Charizard defeats all of their Pokémon. After the battle, Nemona becomes uncharacteristically quiet, and both Hilda and Bede try to reassure her. To their surprise, she bursts into laughter, delighted by the battle. When Blue, Leaf, and Red walk away after the match, they note how strong the other team was and plan to keep training.

As the tournament concludes, Nemona, Hilda, and Hilbert begin asking Lear about the possibility of a future tournament. Lear reveals that he has anticipated this question, and has already planned another one. He snaps his fingers, and Champions from each region show up behind him. Nemona is thrilled at the excitement that awaits.

• This was the first event to feature characters from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
• The first run of this event began at 13:00 UTC to coincide with the Pokémon Presents that began at 13:00 UTC on August 8, 2023. This makes it one of only two story events that did not begin at 6:00 UTC on the specified day, the other being Guzzling Glutton's Target.
• The scene in Full of Excitement! where Nemona gets Bede to join her team is likely a reference to a scene in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in which, if the player repeatedly refuses to be Nemona's rival, she will continue to ask in different ways until the player finally accepts.
• Nemona's team battles Lear's team in the semifinals and the team of Sygna Suit Blue, Sygna Suit Red, and Sygna Suit Leaf in the finals of this tournament. This is exactly the same as the player's final two opponents in the Pokémon Masters League.
