A Pure and Touching Heart (Japanese: 心をひきつける純真 Purity that Attracts the Heart) was a Neo Champions event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pair Nate (Champion) & Haxorus.
The "Nate Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Nate (Champion) & Haxorus from the beginning of the event to January 11, 2024.
During this event, players could earn Event Vouchers X from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.
The player could battle using Nate (Champion) & Haxorus to obtain +0.6× bonus vouchers; Lear & Hoopa, Iris & Hydreigon, Colress & Klinklang, Hilbert & Oshawott/Dewott/Samurott, Hilda & Tepig/Pignite/Emboar, or N & Zekrom to obtain +0.4× bonus vouchers; and any unlisted Unova sync pairs to obtain +0.2× bonus vouchers.
This event featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas with teams using various theme skills, earning medals and other rewards.
Additionally, the music and artwork on the title screen were different than usual. The title screen artwork depicted Nate (Champion) & Haxorus, and the background music was
Battle! (Unova Neo Champion) (Pokémon Masters EX Version). In addition, a special voice-over line of Nate saying "Pokémon Masters EX" would play as soon as the game's logo appeared on the title screen. On December 25, 2023, Rosa (Champion) & Meloetta were added to this title screen artwork, and a special voice-over line of Rosa saying "Pokémon Masters EX" was added to the pool of lines randomly chosen each time the title screen was loaded. However, when players updated to version 2.40.0 (released on December 26, 2023), the music and artwork returned to normal, though Nate or Rosa's special voice-over line still played until January 12, 2024.
Plot
Lear announces the beginning of the second Neo Champion Stadium, for which Iris and Colress would serve as judges. Iris announces the criteria for the Neo Champion title: Sync pairs who have the power to touch the hearts of others. She further explains that for this Neo Champion Stadium, nominations are required for entry. To keep the judging fair, Colress explains that he will use his Colress Machine to examine the performance of the Neo Champion trainers and ensure unbiased judgment.
N, Hilbert, and Hilda reveal to Nate that they nominated him to participate in the upcoming Neo Champion Stadium. Nate is astonished, but each nominator gives an explanation as to why they felt Nate deserved the nomination. Hilbert explains that Nate's calm, quick thinking contributed to their success in invading Team Plasma's hideout, while Hilda comments on his courage and battle skill. N explains to Nate that he was touched by Nate's honest emotions when Ghetsis arrived on Pasio. To further back up his point, N tells Nate that his Haxorus also wishes to be a Neo Champion with him. Nate decides to accept the nominations and try for the Neo Champion title. He resolves not to let his friends down.
After a training session with Hilda, Nate and Haxorus take a break in the caves, but are interrupted when Ingo and Emmet arrive to repair their battle facility, which was damaged by Team Break while they were at large. Nate volunteers to help, and his Haxorus teams up with Ingo's Excadrill to clear the large boulders blocking the tracks. Clay arrives and notices the work that Nate, Ingo and Emmet had done, but he reminds Nate that he is supposed to be preparing for the Neo Champion Stadium. However Nate explains that he couldn't ignore anyone who needs help. He then leaves to train elsewhere. Ingo and Emmet tell Clay of how great Nate's teamwork with them was, and Clay remarks on Nate's keen talent for sensing the needs of others.
In the snowy mountains, Nate and Haxorus have another training session, then stop to take another break. Marlon emerges from a glacier, to Nate's surprise. Nate asks him what he was doing, and Marlon tells Nate that he was swimming with the Pokémon there before returning the question. Nate tells him that he is preparing for the Neo Champion Stadium. Marlon did not know that such a competition existed, but gives Nate props for his strength and effort when he fought Team Plasma. Nate reflects on these events, as well as N's words to him at the time. The memories prompt Nate to explain to Marlon why he is so determined to help others. Marlon responds by telling him that whatever the reason is, the strength of his beliefs is what gives him and his Pokémon their power.
When Nate arrives at the Neo Champion Stadium, he defeats Rose and Emma before challenging Rei and Hisuian Decidueye in battle. Rei has Hisuian Decidueye attack Haxorus from the latter's blind spot but Nate uses this strategy to his advantage, predicting where Decidueye would move next. N, Hilbert, and Hilda watch the match with anticipation as Nate activates his sync move, Resonating Will Dragon Claw, causing Decidueye to faint. As a result, Nate wins the match.
Iris and Colress arrive at the arena's stage to announce Nate the winner of the Neo Champion Stadium. Colress shares his analysis on Haxorus' skills and tactics, revealing that it received a significant jump in its power caused by the trust it had in Nate.
Nate then arrives at the stage in his Neo Champion attire, expressing his confidence in his partner as he resolves to persevere as a Neo Champion, even in difficult and scary times.
