One More Step to a New Path (Japanese: 新しい道へのもう一歩 One More Step to a New Path) was a Neo Champions event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pairs Cheren (Champion) & Tornadus and Bianca (Champion) & Virizion.

First run

The event first ran from May 31 to June 17, 2024. "Cheren Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Cheren (Champion) & Tornadus from the beginning of the event to July 10, 2024, and the "Bianca Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Bianca (Champion) & Virizion from June 2 to July 10, 2024.

In this run, players could earn Event Vouchers H from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.

The player could battle using Cheren (Champion) & Tornadus or Bianca (Champion) & Virizion to obtain +0.6× bonus vouchers; Iris (Alt.) & Hydreigon, Hilbert & Oshawott/Dewott/Samurott, or Hilda & Tepig/Pignite/Emboar to obtain +0.4× bonus vouchers; and any unlisted Unova sync pairs to obtain +0.2× bonus vouchers.

This run featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas with teams using various theme skills, earning medals and other rewards.

In addition, players could earn a medal for completing all the story areas in the event.

For the duration of this run, a splash screen featuring art of Cheren (Champion) & Tornadus and Bianca (Champion) & Virizion was displayed when opening the game.

Second run

The event reran again from September 3 to 19, 2025 as 6th place in the Trainer Tales Championship. This run only contained the story areas; the battles, vouchers, and shop did not return. In addition, no missions were available, and no medals could be earned.

Cheren	Really? That's not what I think. We both know you love Pokémon battles, Bianca. The day we got our first Pokémon, you were the first one who wanted to battle. And afterward, we all set out on our separate journeys, with the goal of becoming stronger. Don't you remember? I know since then, we've all gone through a lot of different experiences in Unova and on Pasio. Perhaps our goal is no longer simply to "become stronger."
Bianca	You're right... We've changed. In a good way, of course!
Cheren	Yeah... Strength can mean so many different things. The title of Neo Champion is awarded to Trainers on Pasio who serve as role models and examples for others to follow. So being strong in Pokémon battles isn't the only thing that's taken into consideration. If you and I can teach others our definition of strength... I think we can advance even further. That's the main reason I invited you to take part in the competition. And if you can show Virizion what strength means to you, I think it might accept you.
(Virizion looks at Bianca silently)

When I look back on all the Neo Champions we've had so far, I remember the various criteria they've been judged on... But I believe this particular criteria is the most important for Pasio's Neo Champions. We're asking each participant to inform the judges beforehand what their definition of strength is... and then prove to us that they embody that strength! How you prove this is up to you! It could be through battle, or a performance of some kind! Show us the strength you've gained during your travels. Iris and I can't wait to see what you've got in store for us!
