Three Trainers, Three Minds (Japanese: 三人三色の教え方 Trio's Triple Teachings) was a Neo Champions event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pairs Red (Champion) & Articuno, Leaf (Champion) & Moltres, and Blue (Champion) & Zapdos.
During this event, players could earn vouchers from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.
The player could battle using Red (Champion) & Articuno, Leaf (Champion) & Moltres, or Blue (Champion) & Zapdos to obtain +0.6× bonus vouchers; Lance & Dragonite or Bede & Hatterene to obtain +0.4× bonus vouchers; and Calem & Espurr/Meowstic, Hop & Zamazenta, or any unlisted Kanto sync pairs to obtain +0.2× bonus vouchers.
This event featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas with teams using various theme skills, earning medals and other rewards.
In addition, players could earn a medal for completing all the story areas in the event.
First run
The event first ran from August 28 to October 2, 2023. The "Red Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Red (Champion) & Articuno from the beginning of the event to October 7, 2023. The "Leaf Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Leaf (Champion) & Moltres from August 30 to October 7, 2023. The "Blue Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Blue (Champion) & Zapdos from September 1 to October 7, 2023.
In this run, the type of voucher that players could earn was Event Voucher I. Event mission rewards included medals, Gems, Battle Points, a Tech Move Candy Coin, and a Support Move Candy Coin.
Alongside the event, a Fire-weak Pasio Special Stadium featuring Red (Champion) & Articuno was available from August 30 to September 15, and the extreme battle event Fight through Kanto's Best! was available from September 1 to 18.
Additionally, the music and artwork on the title screen were different than usual. The title screen artwork depicted Red (Champion) & Articuno, Leaf (Champion) & Moltres, and Blue (Champion) & Zapdos, and the background music was
Battle! (Kanto Neo Champion) (Pokémon Masters EX Version). In addition, a special voice-over line of Leaf or Blue saying "Pokémon Masters EX" would play as soon as the game's logo appeared on the title screen, chosen at random each time the title screen was loaded.
Second run
The event reran from December 25, 2024 to January 12, 2025. The "Red Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Red (Champion) & Articuno, the "Leaf Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Leaf (Champion) & Moltres, and the "Blue Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Blue (Champion) & Zapdos. All three of these scouts lasted from the beginning of the event to January 25, 2025.
In this run, the type of voucher that players could earn was Event Voucher N. Event mission rewards were changed to include only medals and Gems.
Alongside the event, a Rock-weak Pasio Special Stadium featuring Blue (Champion) & Zapdos was available from December 26, 2024 to January 6, 2025, and the extreme battle event Fight through Kanto's Best! was available for the duration of the event.
Plot
In Centra City, Professor Oak notices some new Trainers looking glum, recognising that they've set themselves a high goal that's become counterproductive to their growth and wonders what he can do to help. Some time later, Red, Blue and Leaf arrive at the Battle Villa to meet up with him and Lance, where he explains about the upcoming Neo Champion Stadium and requests that the three participate as challengers, much to their shock.
Lance explains that Professor Oak has requested the judging criteria for this round to be 'exemplary leadership', reminding them that Neo Champions are chosen for reasons other than strength. He elaborates that all participants will be mentoring two beginner Trainers and be judged based on their ability to help them grow as well as a written exam on their knowledge, which Oak trusts that, as Pokedex holders, passing on their wealth of should be easy. The three agree after a moment's thought, before Leaf brings up the suggestion of forming new sync pairs after seeing the Galarian Neo Champions, with the three sending out their Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres.
In the Pasio arena, Blue brings in Hop, Calem and Bede as training partners for the pair of Ace Trainers he's mentoring, while in the forest, Leaf encourages a Lass and Rising Star to shower their own Pokemon with affection by hugging her own Moltres. Later, Blue and Leaf meet to exchange details of their progress before wondering how on earth the silent Red is going to teach his pair of beginners. To their shock, they discover Red in the mountains relentlessly beating his Youngster's Ivysaur and his Camper's Wartortle with Articuno even as they beg for surrender. Leaf quickly gives them a Potion to heal up before pulling Red aside to question him, though the two are baffled when Red affirms that that is the reason why he's beating them, which he continues as they leave to return to their own pairs. As the day of the Neo Champion Stadium draws closer, Leaf and Blue are still trying to encourage their students, with Blue privately remarking that it's up to them to showcase the skills they have. Meanwhile, Red's Youngster and Camper encounter Diantha, Alder and Steven and talk to them under Red's watch.
On the day of the tournament, Leaf's team pulls the lead in the written portion of the test, before all three teams score through the practical until Blue's team crushes Leaf's team to face off against Red's. Blue declares he's not losing to Red again, which his students echo, while Red's team remarks on what the battle will be like. During the battle, one of Blue's Ace Trainers start to panic when the Youngster's Ivysaur knocks back her Pidgeot; when her counterpart's Exeggutor knocks out Ivysaur, they falter when the Camper's Wartortle pushes back, and in turn making Blue realise the flaw in his teaching. As he explains to them after Red's Articuno beats his Zapdos, he neglected to teach them how to enjoy battling; by teaching them how to win, they were held back by a fear of losing, while Red's students, having been throughly beaten by his Articuno, learnt to care about the joys of battling instead.
With the tournament over, Lance introduces the newest Neo Champions: Leaf, who taught the importance of loving Pokemon alongside knowing them; Blue, whose coaching helped his team score high marks; and Red, who managed the task of training others to enjoy battling regardless of outcome, even if Oak calls him out for his rough methods. The six Trainers who were mentored thank the three and vow to be as strong as them. Blue and Leaf stop them, telling them to find their own strengths independently from them, so that, as Red says, they can have a fun battle.

| Blue | We're the best! |
| Blue | So all three of us became Neo Champions, but... Me and Zapdos are definitely the coolest! |
| Leaf | Whaaat? That's gotta be me and Moltres! |
| Red | ... ... ...! |
| Blue | No one's backing down, huh? |
| Leaf | Should we decide who's the best again? |
- Professor Oak's Request
| Name | Text |
|---|---|
| (City; Professor Oak sees a Camper and a Youngster) | |
| One day, Professor Oak came across some Trainers who were looking down in the dumps. | |
| Professor Oak | Those Trainers are beginners, if I remember correctly. |
| Youngster | Ahhh... I lost again... |
| Camper | Can training like this make me as strong as Red? |
| Youngster | Maybe I'm not training my Pokémon correctly... |
| Professor Oak | Hm... They seem to be struggling because they set their goals too high. For new Trainers, setting goals too high can be counterproductive. I wonder if there's anything I could do to help Trainers like them who are just starting out... |
| (Professor Oak is silent for a moment) | |
| Professor Oak | I know! |
| (Transition to the Battle Villa; Professor Oak is standing next to Lance) | |
| Professor Oak | The Neo Champion Stadium will be held soon. I'd like you three to participate in it. |
| Leaf | That's the tournament to decide Pasio's Neo Champion—an example for everyone else to measure up against...right? |
| Blue | You want us to be the judges or something? I'm not gonna go easy on them, you know! |
| Lance | Actually, I'd like you all to join as challengers, not judges! |
| (Leaf, Red, and Blue are shocked) | |
| Red | ... ... ...! |
- The Strongest Challengers
| Name | Text |
|---|---|
| Leaf | We're the challengers?! |
| Blue | I'm not trying to be cocky, but...are you sure we're allowed to participate? |
| Lance | You three are already an example for a lot of sync pairs. But for this Neo Champion Stadium, participants will be judged on their "exemplary leadership," at Professor Oak's request. I'd like you all to find new potential within yourselves by coaching new Trainers. After all, Neo Champions aren't chosen solely for their strength! |
| Blue | That's true... |
| Lance | Here are the regulations for this round. |
| (Fantasy of Red facing a Camper and a Youngster) | |
| Lance | Each participant will be teamed up with two beginner Trainers. |
| (Red turns around and strikes a pose with the two younger Trainers) | |
| Lance | You'll guide them in battle as team leaders—and show us your ability to help them grow! |
| (Professor Oak walks into the fantasy) | |
| Professor Oak | On top of that, there will be a written exam to test their Pokémon knowledge! |
| (Back to the villa) | |
| Professor Oak | It's important to know about the Pokémon you're battling alongside! I've entrusted you all with a Pokédex, so I'm sure your Pokémon knowledge is sound. It shouldn't be too hard to pass on that knowledge to younger Trainers, right? |
| (Blue grimaces) | |
| Blue | Hah, of course not! Well, this gives us a bit of a challenge, then, doesn't it. |
| Leaf | Yeah! As Lance said, I think it will open up new possibilities for us! |
| Red | ... ... ...! |
| (Leaf looks thoughtful) | |
| Leaf | Oh yeah! I have a suggestion for you two. What do you think of forming sync pairs with those three? |
| (Fantasy of Hop, Bede, and Marnie posing in their Neo Champion outfits with Galarian Zapdos, Galarian Articuno, and Galarian Moltres) | |
| Leaf | I was inspired when I saw everyone from Galar battling... |
| (Back to the villa) | |
| Leaf | And if we form sync pairs with Pokémon we haven't before, they can grow alongside the Trainers we're coaching! |
| Blue | I don't mind. What about you, Red? |
| Red | ... ... ...! |
| Blue | It's decided, then. |
| Leaf | Let's compete to see which of the three of us is best! |
| (Red, Blue, and Leaf take a step forward and send out Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres) | |
- Different Strokes
| Name | Text |
|---|---|
| (Pasio arena; Blue is talking to a male and a female Ace Trainer) | |
| Blue | All right, you two! You better be ready, 'cause I'm gonna train you up good! |
| Ace Trainer (1) | Yes, please! |
| Ace Trainer (2) | Um... Are these our training partners? |
| (Hop, Calem, and Bede walk up) | |
| Blue | Yep, that's them. |
| Calem | Nice to meet you. Let's give it our best today. |
| Bede | You two are lucky you get to train with the most elite Trainer of all. Me! |
| Hop | Haha... He's like that, but hopefully you'll all get along. |
| Ace Trainer (1) | But all three of them are Neo Champions! |
| Blue | They're pretty strong for you two, but don't worry! Once you've a few pointers from me, you'll definitely beat them. |
| (Forest; Leaf is talking to a Lass and a Rising Star, all with their Pokémon out) | |
| Leaf | Now then, let's get studying! |
| Lass | I'm ready! |
| Leaf | Question for you two! What do you think is important for a Pokémon Trainer? |
| Lass | Umm... Being good at battling? |
| Rising Star | Knowledge of Pokémon moves and matchups? |
| Leaf | You're both half correct! The most important thing for a Pokémon Trainer is... your love of Pokémon! |
| (Leaf walks up to her Moltres) | |
| Leaf | I love the warmth you give off, Moltres. You're the absolute best! |
| (The Lass and Rising Star are shocked) | |
| Leaf | For starters, you have to get up close to your Pokémon to understand them! Now it's your turn! Let's get to know your partner Pokémon even better! By being friends with your partner, you can learn things about them that aren't in the Pokédex. And sometimes that lets you battle in new ways! |
| (City; Blue spots Leaf and approaches her) | |
| Blue | Yo, Leaf! Training going all right? It's almost scary how smooth mine is going! |
| Leaf | Same here! My teammates are quick learners, so they're doing great! By the way, I wonder how Red's doing... |
| Blue | Yeah. He doesn't talk much, does he. He seemed all in, but I've never seen him teach others. |
| Leaf | Maybe we should go check on him? |
| Blue | Yeah... I kinda have a bad feeling... |
| (Blue and Leaf arrive in the mountains, where Red is facing a Youngster and Camper) | |
| When the two arrived, they saw... | |
| (Red's Articuno attacks the Youngster's Ivysaur and the Camper's Wartortle) | |
| Youngster | Ahhhhhh! |
| (Articuno attacks the younger Trainers' Pokémon again) | |
| Camper | We give up! We told you, we surrender! |
| Red | ... ... ...! |
| Red relentlessly beating the new Trainers... | |
- Red's Intent
| Name | Text |
|---|---|
| Red | ... ... ...! |
| Youngster | Oof... |
| Camper | *wheeze* *cough* |
| Leaf | Are you two OK? |
| Blue | I see Red challenged you to an all-out battle, huh. |
| Camper | Y-yeah... |
| Leaf | I'll give you a Potion so you can heal your Pokémon. |
| (Ivysaur and Wartortle are happy) | |
| Leaf | Hey, aren't you being a bit rough, Red? You haven't forgotten what we're being judged on, have you? |
| Red | ... ... ...? |
| Leaf | You're saying that's the reason you're doing this? Are you serious? Your teammates won't keep up with you if you carry on like this. |
| Blue | Well, don't go overboard with the tough love, Red. Just make sure your teammates don't run away before the judging, OK? |
| (Blue leaves) | |
| Red | ... ... ... |
| Camper | W-we're already going again?! |
| Leaf | *sigh* I gotta leave now, too. Don't push them too hard, all right? |
| (Leaf leaves) | |
| Red | ... ... ...! |
| Youngster | Eeeeeek! |
| (Battle Villa; Leaf and Blue are talking to their teammates) | |
| One day, with the Neo Champion Stadium fast approaching... | |
| Ace Trainer (2) | Ahhh... |
| Blue | Don't be so nervous! Have confidence in yourself! Both of you have already beaten a team of three Neo Champions! |
| Ace Trainer (2) | B-but...we lost way more times than we won... |
| Ace Trainer (1) | Just the thought of holding you back is... |
| Lass | I wonder if I'll be able to battle properly... |
| Leaf | If you keep worrying, you won't be able to show what you've got! C'mon, let's have fun! |
| Rising Star | O-OK... |
| (Blue looks at his disheartened students) | |
| Blue | (They should have the skills, but...) (It's gonna come down to whether they can show them during the assessment.) |
| (City; Red and his team come across Diantha, Alder, and Steven conversing) | |
| Meanwhile... | |
| Camper | Oh, look! Champions! |
| Youngster | Yay! What an opportunity! Red, we're gonna ask to battle them! |
| Red | ... ... ...! |
| (The younger Trainers run up to Diantha, Alder, and Steven and talk to them) | |
| Red | ... ... ... |
- A Fun Battle!

| (Battle Villa; Leaf, Blue, Red, and their teams are gathered alongside Professor Oak and Lance) | |
| On the day of the Neo Champion Stadium assessment... The first test—the test of Pokémon knowledge—had been completed... | |
| Professor Oak | Impressive! I'm surprised everyone did so well! But... I can see Leaf's team has a deep knowledge of Pokémon—and love of them. |
| Lance | Yes. To truly understand Pokémon, it's important to have love, not just knowledge. |
| Professor Oak | That's why Leaf's team scored the highest on the Pokémon knowledge test! |
| Leaf | Yay! We did it! And who better to share the joy with than our partner Pokémon! |
| (Leaf and her team shower their partners with affection) | |
| Leaf | There, there! |
| Blue | Love and trust in your Pokémon... I didn't think we did too bad, but I guess we can't beat Leaf, huh. |
| (Red nods; fade to black) | |
| After that was a practical test—on Pokémon battling. The three teams led by Red, Blue, and Leaf kept winning without difficulty. | |
| (Stadium; Leaf and Blue's teams are preparing to battle) | |
| Then, Blue's team and Leaf's team clashed in the semifinals! | |
| Blue | This is it! |
| (Blue's team defeats Leaf's team) | |
| Leaf | Ahhh! |
| Lass | I'm sorry, Leaf... |
| Leaf | Don't worry! You all did so well! That was amazing, Blue. You trained your team so well in such short time! I'd expect no less from the Gym Leader of Viridian City! |
| Blue | Hehe, of course! Now then, next up is... |
| (Red's team walks onto the battlefield, and Blue's team lines up to face them) | |
| Blue | I'm not losing to you this time, Red! Let's show them the results of our training, you two! |
| Ace Trainer (1) | Y-yes, sir! |
| Ace Trainer (2) | We'll be sure to win for you, Blue! |
| Camper | Whoa, they look strong as well! |
| Youngster | I can't wait to see what our battle is like! |
| Red | ... ... ...! |
| (The female Ace Trainer's Pidgeot attacks the Youngster's Ivysaur) | |
| Youngster | Not bad! How about this? |
| (Ivysaur knocks Pidgeot back) | |
| Ace Trainer (2) | Gah! |
| Ace Trainer (1) | I-I won't lose! |
| (The male Ace Trainer's Exeggutor knocks out Ivysaur) | |
| Youngster | Whoa! Hehe, nice attack! But... |
| Camper | I'll get you back with this! Here I come! |
| (The Camper's Wartortle knocks out Exeggutor) | |
| Ace Trainer (1) | Gahhh! |
| Youngster | All right! We did it! |
| Blue | Ah, I get it... |
| Ace Trainer (1) | I-I'm sorry, Blue... |
| Blue | No, I'm the one who should apologize. |
| Ace Trainer (1) | Huh? |
| (Wartortle knocks out Pidgeot) | |
| Ace Trainer (2) | Ahhh! |
| Red | ... ... ...! |
| (Red's Articuno and Blue's Zapdos clash, but Zapdos faints; the three teams meet up in the center of the battlefield) | |
| Blue | I didn't want to accept it, but...there are things I can improve on. Red. You were right again. |
| Ace Trainer (2) | What?! |
| Ace Trainer (1) | You coach just fine, Blue! |
| Blue | Thanks... But it's true I failed to teach you something. How to enjoy battling. Because I kept on teaching you to win, I made you afraid to lose. |
| Ace Trainer (1) | Oh... |
| Leaf | That's why Red was going at them at full strength. So they could battle anyone without being afraid to lose. |
| (Red nods) | |
| Blue | Of course. If a new Trainer lost to Red over and over again... They wouldn't care if they lost to anyone! All they'd care about is the joy of battling! "Let's enjoy battling together" may be a simple message...but it's very you, Red. |
| Red | ... ... ... |
| (Evening; Lance and Professor Oak are in the stadium) | |
| Lance | Now, it's time to announce the Neo Champions for this round! The first is Leaf, who taught how important it is to not only have knowledge of Pokémon but love them, too! |
| (Leaf walks onto the stage in her Neo Champion outfit and poses) | |
| Lance | And that deep knowledge was on full display during battle! But most importantly, to become a first-class Trainer, you have to love Pokémon. |
| (Leaf cheers) | |
| Lance | And the second is Blue! |
| (Blue walks onto the stage in his Neo Champion outfit and poses) | |
| Lance | Blue's team scored well on both tests—written and practical. Seeing that, the other judges all praised your coaching. Such leadership is worthy of a Neo Champion title! |
| Professor Oak | Blue... That was amazing! |
| (Blue thanks him) | |
| Lance | And the last is Red! |
| (Red walks onto the stage in his Neo Champion outfit and poses) | |
| Lance | It's hard to train a person to enjoy battling no matter the outcome! But you did so impressively! Your teammates' eyes were strong, sturdy, and unafraid to lose! The same eyes you had the day you beat me on the Indigo Plateau! |
| (Red smiles) | |
| Professor Oak | Although your methods were a little rough! |
| (Red laughs nervously) | |
| Camper | Thank you, everyone! |
| Rising Star | Thanks to you all, we learned so much! |
| Ace Trainer (1) | We'll keep on getting stronger, and one day, we'll be like you— |
| Blue | No, that's not good enough. You'll never make it to the top if you're always following in someone's footsteps! |
| Leaf | That's right. I want each of you to find your own strengths! |
| Blue | Then, one day, you can try to take us down! |
| Leaf | And when you do... |
| Red | ... ... ... Let's have a fun battle! |
Trivia
