History

Pre-series

Young Amethio with his Charcadet

Amethio lived with his parents, Cervantis and Maria. He had a close relationship with his mother, and at some point in his life, he became friends with a Charcadet, with whom he also enjoyed playing. As a child, Amethio lost his mother in a car accident, and Hamber, his grandfather's butler, became responsible for taking care of the little boy in the family mansion after her death, which made him become like a family member to Amethio.

At some point, Amethio joined his grandfather's organization, the Explorers, with the goal of finding Laqua, something his father, who deviated from this path and was exiled from the Explorers, was unable to do. He was personally trained by Hamber to be recruited as an admin and was the first of the admins to be recruited.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series

Amethio debuted in The Pendant That Starts It All (Part One). He was first seen entering Indigo Academy while searching for Liko. When they met, he introduced himself as an associate of her grandmother, and requested Liko's pendant. Liko, distrusting him, attempted to escape but got caught up in a battle against Amethio's teammate Zirc and his Rhydon. He caught up with her on the roof of the academy, only for Friede to appear on the back of his Charizard and interfere, clashing with his Ceruledge.

Amethio witnessed the power Liko's mysterious pendant held and, in the following episode, led the rest of his group on an aerial chase for Friede and Liko back to the Rising Volt Tacklers's airship. After breaking through the ship's forcefield, Amethio threatened Liko to come with them, and she nearly complied, but they were stopped by Friede and Captain Pikachu. They resumed the battle from earlier, but Friede chose his Pikachu this time, which Amethio saw as a taunt. Once more, their battle ended without a winner, as Liko interrupted the battle. Her Sprigatito then unleashed a Leafage strong enough to break the forcefield around the battlefield, but was blown overboard in the process. Seeing this as a chance to gain leverage over the situation, Amethio captured Sprigatito and fled with his teammates.

In the following episode, Amethio assigned Zirc to spy on the Brave Olivine and Onia to look after Sprigatito. When his group was found by the Rising Volt Tacklers, Amethio had another battle with Friede, which ended when Liko managed to rescue her Pokémon. Some time later, Amethio decided to report to Hamber on the progress of his mission, after which he decided to take responsibility for discovering the pendant's secrets.

As of The Ancient Poké Ball, after leaving without a mission to complete, that was now given by Spinel, Amethio decided to follow and discover more about the Black Rayquaza that was summoned from Roy's Ancient Poké Ball.

Amethio with Onia and Zirc

In The Lonely Hatenna, Amethio, Onia, and Zirc arrived in the Galar region in order to investigate the Galar Mine. In the following episode, they entered the mine and split up, with Amethio engaging Friede in battle while Onia and Zirc confronted Liko and Roy. However, a Galarian Moltres that once traveled with Lucius began rampaging, interrupting Amethio and Friede's battle. After retreating in the next episode, Amethio decided to get the Pokémon that emerged from Liko's pendant.

In Reunion at the Ancient Castle!, Amethio, Zirc and Onia reported his findings to Hamber. Right after, they followed Liko, Roy, and Friede to an ancient castle in Hammerlocke. Once they found them, Amethio and his teammates surrounded them in order to take the mysterious Pokémon away. In the next episode, Amethio battled Friede once again. During the battle, Amethio had the upper hand on Friede, until he Terastallized his Charizard into a Dark type, which led him to losing the battle.

In Terapagos's Adventure, Amethio mostly kept to himself, still upset over his defeat. His Ceruledge approached him to see if he was alright, but Amethio had few words to say. In the next episode, Amethio met up with the rest of the Explorers Admins and suggested following Rayquaza, which would eventually lead them to Lucius's other Pokémon and getting closer to Terapagos as a result. The other Admins then agreed with his suggestion.

Amethio battling Hamber

In Roar of the Black Rayquaza, Amethio found the Black Rayquaza and battled it, but lost. After returning to base, Amethio asked Hamber to train him in order to become stronger, which he accepted. In the next episode, Amethio battled Hamber, but lost when he Terastallized his Dusknoir. After the battle, Amethio was given a Tera Orb to use from Hamber.

Friede and Amethio joining forces to battle the Black Rayquaza

In From So Far Away, Amethio blamed Spinel for the destruction caused by Rayquaza and he saved Liko and Terapagos from being hit by a Draco Meteor, challenging the Legendary Pokémon again. After Terastallizing Ceruledge, Amethio reluctantly joined forces with Friede and his Tera Charizard who used a joint strategy to battle. In the midst of the tough battle, the two were defeated, and soon afterwards, Amethio witnessed the Evolution of Liko's Sprigatito into a Floragato. At the end of the battle, Liko thanked Amethio for his help, but he replied that their team-up was just something temporary and that his objective was just the Black Rayquaza before returning to the Explorers' base. Later, in a meeting with the other members and Gibeon, Amethio heard each other's new missions, and after each one left the place, Amethio stayed with Hamber at the base.

In The Treasure of Eternity, Amethio was summoned to meet with Gibeon in person. While in the meeting, he swore to succeed in capturing Terapagos and finding Laqua, so Gibeon could obtain the Laquium found there. After leaving, Amethio promised Hamber that he would succeed for his grandfather, Gibeon, where his father had failed, and asked Ceruledge to continue serving him in this endeavor. He was then contacted by Zirc and Onia, who had been spying on Spinel at the Exceed building and alerted him to his rival Admin's movements. This information led Amethio to conclude that Spinel was once again planning something.

Amethio and Liko opening up to each other

In The Approaching Shadow!, Amethio tracked Spinel to Glaseado Mountain. Spinel intentionally lured Amethio into an encounter with Liko, which led to a battle between the two. Noting how Liko had improved since their previous battle, Amethio was forced to Terastallize Ceruledge to gain the upper hand. They were interrupted by Spinel, who tested the effects of his recently-obtained Laquium on his Umbreon. The Laquium forced Umbreon into a berserk, feral-like state, giving it the strength to defeat Ceruledge in a single blow. After Terapagos destroyed the Laquium shard and purified Umbreon of its effects, Spinel fled with Amethio and Liko chasing after him. They followed Spinel into a nearby cave, only to find out it was a trap. Spinel then sealed the entrance, trapping him and Liko inside.

In Liko and Amethio, while sitting to a campfire set by Ceruledge, Amethio opened up to Liko about wanting to fulfill his grandfather's goals. Terapagos was angered at Amethio upon hearing this, but Liko calmed it down and she noted that also her grandmother set her out to find Laqua. When asked by Liko as to why the Rising Volt Tacklers and Explorers couldn't just work together towards the same goal instead of being enemies, Amethio responded that their paths were different. After escaping the cave with their Pokémon's help, Amethio warned Liko of Spinel's tactics before parting ways with her.

Amethio, Zirc, and Onia decide to go to Laqua on their own

Upon returning, Amethio was put into a meeting with the other admins and higher-ups, where he was questioned over why he had allowed Liko to escape with their main target, Terapagos. Realizing that Spinel had framed him, Amethio attempted to explain his actions but was stopped by Gibeon, who expressed disappointment in Amethio. Stating that he was no different from his father, Gibeon dismissed Amethio and told him he did not want to see him again before ending the meeting, leaving a frustrated Amethio gritting his teeth and clenching his fist.

In Into a New Sky! The Brave Olivine!, still frustrated by the events that had transpired, Amethio decided to go on a mission alone. Despite insisting that he wanted to go alone, Zirc and Onia showed their loyalty to Amethio and decided to join him.

In Entei's Fierce Battle Cry!, Amethio was seen at the Exceed building, begging Cervantis to give him information about the Laquium. Cervantis coldly refused his son's request, explaining that Gibeon was in possession of the relevant data.

In The Truth Revealed!, Amethio, Zirc, and Onia infiltrated the Exceed building to uncover what Spinel was scheming, only to end up captured by security. They were freed by Hamber, who took them to Amethio's mansion. There, Amethio and his companions learned from Hamber about Gibeon's past, his friendship with Lucius that ended in tragedy, and how he used the Laquium to survive for over a century. Hamber also revealed that Liko was Lucius's descendant, though Amethio noted he had already suspected that was the case. Amethio accused Spinel of using Gibeon in order to obtain the Laquium for himself. Determined not to let Spinel have his way, Amethio, Zirc, and Onia bid farewell to Hamber and set off for Laqua.

Amethio confronting Gibeon at Laqua

In Guided by the Black Rayquaza!, Amethio confronted Gibeon at Laqua, where the latter was trying to mine a cluster of Laquium crystals. He warned Gibeon about Spinel's apparent betrayal, only for his grandfather to deny this and claim he was aware of Spinel's scheming. To everyone's surprise, when Gibeon's Zygarde shattered the cluster, a still-living Lucius emerged from it. Lucius revealed that Zygarde had been keeping him aware of the world outside of Laqua through its Cells. Angered by this apparent betrayal, Gibeon had the Explorers use one of Spinel's machines to stimulate the Laquium core, causing it to rapidly expand like it did a hundred years prior. Amethio asked Liko, Roy, and Dot to help him battle Gibeon, who had convinced Zygarde to fight with him despite their differing views on Laquium.

Amethio and Gibeon's last moment together

In The Earthshaking White Zygarde, Amethio, Liko, Roy, and Dot launched a coordinated assault on Gibeon's Zygarde. Despite using a variety of tactics to dodge Zygarde's moves and follow up with counterattacks, a hit from Zygarde's Land's Wrath left only Ceruledge and Floragato able to battle. Refusing to back down, a determined Liko stepped in to support Floragato, who then evolved into a Meowscarada. Using the last of its strength, Amethio had Ceruledge make an opening for Meowscarada, allowing her to strike Zygarde with her newly-learnt Flower Trick. Satisfied, Zygarde forfeited and left, revealing that it only battled alongside Gibeon as a test for Liko and the others and to teach Gibeon how the bonds between Trainer and Pokémon can bring forth miracles. In the next episode, Gibeon, already defeated, was convinced by Amethio and Lucius that it was the ideal way for them to help humans and Pokémon. However, after Pagogo purified Laqua from the presence of Laquium, the energy that gave Gibeon life force began to dissipate. Before leaving, Gibeon left Amethio in charge of taking care of his dreams and leading the Explorers in a new direction. Soon after, Spinel decided to take control of the situation and caused the Six Heroes to lose control, causing Amethio to have to flee Laqua along with Onia and Zirc.

The trio landed in a safe location at the base of the mountain afterwards, but when asked to return to the Explorers headquarters, Amethio refused, explaining that he needed to be alone. Later, a group of Explorers members ambushed Amethio with the intent on capturing him. He managed to flee via a nearby submarine and piloted it to an island off the coast of Levincia, which he had once visited on a family trip and where he had first met his Ceruledge when it was a Charcadet. Believing he had no one left to rely on and realizing he would be in danger if he left, Amethio decided to stay on the island with his Pokémon from then on. Throughout the next year, Spinel took over both Exceed and the Explorers, effectively winning their power feud by usurping all that Gibeon entrusted to Amethio.

In HZ092, it was revealed that Spinel forged a report blaming Amethio for what happened in Laqua, and that both Amethio and Gibeon succumbed afterward. However, his father, Cervantis, did not believe the report, and neither did Hamber. In order to discover the truth and learn about Amethio's fate, Hamber decided to secretly entrust Onia and Zirc with the mission of finding Amethio's whereabouts.

Amethio and Mighty G

In HZ104, Amethio was found on the island by Liko, and his subordinates Zirc and Onia, whom he had not seen since their encounter with Spinel at Laqua a year earlier. Amethio noticed that Liko had also caught her own Charcadet before Zirc and Onia asked him to return to the Explorers, reclaim Exceed, and stop Spinel. Amethio initially refused, believing that he was powerless to do anything, only for Liko to remind him of what he told her when they were trapped in the cave. Liko's Charcadet immediately challenged his Ceruledge to a fight despite knowing that it would not win, though he reluctantly agreed to after Liko convinced him to. Though Ceruledge easily overwhelmed Charcadet, the Fire Child Pokémon refused to give up and eventually managed to land a blow on Ceruledge, and Amethio saw that Ceruledge had the same determination as Charcadet. Knowing that he could not return to the Explorers, Amethio entrusted Zirc and Onia with helping him from within. Zirc then handed him a Zygarde Cube, of which one of his grandfather's Zygarde Cells emerged from it. Realizing what he needed to do, Amethio parted ways with the group and began to seek out the rest of his grandfather's Zygarde.

In HZ105, during a storm, Amethio was helped by Ludlow of the Rising Volt Tacklers in his alter ego Mighty G, as they spent the night in a cave and ate together, Ludlow gave Amethio some advice.

Character

Amethio and Friede

Amethio is a formal person who does not show much emotion in many situations. However, his politeness is a front he uses to manipulate others into giving him what he wants. Amethio would take the first initiative to decide whether a battle is necessary. Instead of having Zirc and Onia, he would be the one to battle, taking responsibility of the situation. However, his tendency to battle by himself tends to make him reckless, such as when he first tried to take on Lucius's Black Rayquaza with his own Pokemon without backup, which resulted in failure.

Amethio smiles for the first time

He is a strong Trainer and appears to have sparked something of a rivalry with Friede, even suggesting that they resume a battle they dropped earlier in The Pendant That Starts It All (Part Two). He also doesn't take lightly to being underestimated, expressing his irritation when Friede chose his Pikachu over his Charizard or when Friede is distracted during their battles. In From So Far Away, Amethio put this rivalry aside to battle the Black Rayquaza together. From that point on, Amethio has had a more neutral relationship with all the members of the Rising Volt Tacklers, even though he claims that nothing changed between them after that.

Despite his forceful means, Amethio seems to not want to use unnecessary violence to attain his goals and dislikes when it happens beyond his control, such as when he flinched when his Ceruledge's Psycho Cut missed the target and caused an explosion on the Brave Olivine. He also does not have any particular ill intent towards the Rising Volt Tacklers (and their Pokémon) personally, saving Sprigatito from falling, allowing Onia to care for Sprigatito in her own affectionate way, having his Ceruledge protect Liko from the Black Rayquaza's Draco Meteor despite having no reason to do so, and even helping out Liko with a plan to escape from a cave sealed by Spinel in Liko and Amethio before freely allowing her to leave with Terapagos rather than taking the chance to capture it. All these positive traits show Amethio's personal sense of honor and respect even towards enemies, and that deep down he is a kind and compassionate person.

Amethio and Liko

Amethio appears to have a distant relationship with his father, to the point of considering Hamber his real father. Regarding his grandfather, Amethio tries to be loyal to his goals, but this often conflicts with his own desires, such as when he was reprimanded by Gibeon for helping Liko. In The Truth Revealed!, upon realizing Spinel's plans, he immediately decided to act, mainly to protect Gibeon's wishes from possible betrayal by Spinel. Amethio has a complicated relationship with the other Explorers admins, some of whom see him as spoiled, as Coral emphasized. This difficult relationship extends to Spinel, who has had an enmity with him since the beginning and who has often tried to harm Amethio within the organization. These negative associations with his peers have led Amethio to typically act alone without seeking help from other members of the Explorers, only welcoming the aid of his agents Onia and Zirc, to whom he has shown loyalty throughout this time. As revealed by Onia and Zirc themselves, they had also viewed Amethio as spoiled when they were first assigned to him, and were originally intending to use him for their own career advancement until he earned their complete loyalty over time, revealing strong personal commitments towards each other which extend beyond their roles in the Explorers.

When Spinel took over his family's legacy and sent out various members of the Explorers to capture him, Amethio was forced to go into hiding and became depressed. However, upon reuniting with Liko and having a battle with her, Amethio snapped out of his depression after witnessing her Charcadet's refusal to give up which also motivated his Ceruledge. After having his determination restored, Amethio decided to put an end to Spinel's plan for good.

After interacting with Ludlow in his Mighty G alter ego, Amethio learned how to cook for himself and dry his clothes properly as before he didn't know how to do either, showing his lack of self-sufficiency. Amethio also learned that while his goal was righteous, taking a break now and again was alright as he appreciated Mighty G's company despite being used to eating alone.

Corviknight is Amethio's second known Pokémon. Amethio uses Corviknight as his main means of transportation. In Found You, Fuecoco!, it was briefly used to battle Friede's Charizard before being commanded by Amethio to capture Liko, which it failed due to the pendant's power protecting her with a powerful barrier.

In Roar of the Black Rayquaza, Corviknight was used as a means to assist Ceruledge in its battle against the Black Rayquaza, helping Ceruledge by allowing the Fire Blades Pokémon to fly on its back as the battle took place at sea, even attacking Rayquaza from a distance with Air Slash. However, despite their efforts, both of them were no match for Rayquaza, and after Ceruledge's defeat Corviknight was recalled by Amethio before he retreated.

In The Approaching Shadow!, Corviknight was utilized by Amethio as his source of transport to tail Spinel from the skies, leading its Trainer all the way to Glaseado Mountain. In the next episode, Corviknight joins Floragato and Ceruledge to try to find a way for Amethio and Liko to escape from a cave they were trapped in.

Corviknight's known moves are Air Slash and Hurricane.
