Batted ball
In the sport of baseball, a batted ball was anytime a batter made contact with a pitched baseball with their baseball bat.
Types of batted ball
Batted balls were often described by the trajectory at which they were hit:
- Fly ball: A ball hit high into the air. (DS9: "Take Me Out to the Holosuite")
- Ground ball: A ball hit along the ground. (DS9: "If Wishes Were Horses", "Take Me Out to the Holosuite")
- Scorcher: A very hard hit ball. (ENT: "Carbon Creek")
Results of batted ball
- Foul ball: A ball that was hit "out of play". (DS9: "Take Me Out to the Holosuite")
- Fair ball: A ball that was hit "in play". (DS9: "Take Me Out to the Holosuite")
