Special sync pair event
A special sync pair event[note 1] (Japanese: 特別バディーズイベント Special Buddies Event) is a type of limited-time event in Pokémon Masters EX. These events allow players to team up with a certain sync pair for free. In addition, an event exchange is available in the shop with items that can be used to maximize the featured sync pair's move level, increase their potential to 5★, and fill out their sync grid.
The first event introduced with this structure, Bugsy & Scyther, is instead called a Sync Pair-Up Event (Japanese: バディーズ加入イベント Buddies Join Event).
Bugsy & Scyther
This event ran from July 22 to August 5, 2021. It allowed players to recruit Bugsy & Scyther.
Battles rewarded players with Event Vouchers N, which could be redeemed in the shop for items to power up Bugsy & Scyther. Extra Event Vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.
This event reran from March 23 to April 6, 2024. Event Voucher N was replaced with Event Voucher U, and exchanges were available in the shop to convert Bugsy & Scyther's Custom ★ Power-Ups and Sync Orbs into standard 4★ Power-Ups and Co-op Sync Orbs for players who had already fully upgraded this sync pair.
Area info
During the first run, this story area played automatically upon log-in and could not be replayed. It was not given a name or completion rewards until the second run.

| (Team Rocket's hideout; Giovanni is wearing his classic outfit, with Archer on his right and Ariana on his left) | |
| Giovanni | My loyal followers... First, I would like to thank you for responding to my call and joining me here on Pasio. I am pleased to have this opportunity to work with you all. As you may know, Pasio is a place overflowing with people, goods, and Pokémon. Presented with such an opportunity, what course of action should our organization take? Some may find themselves losing sight of our goals. So, let us review what our ambitions as Team Rocket are. In an attempt to return to my roots, I donned my old clothes and gave this some thought. The answer is simple: we must use money to claim more power. Of course, this will be accomplished by utilizing the power of Pokémon. |
| (Cut to Archer) | |
| Giovanni | Controlling the world and executing our schemes are only steps towards achieving our goal. |
| (Cut to Ariana) | |
| Giovanni | Pokémon with immense power... Rare Pokémon... They will undoubtedly be useful. |
| (Cut to the Team Rocket Grunts that Giovanni is addressing) | |
| Giovanni | But we should not focus solely on them. I want you all to broaden your horizons. |
| (Cut back to Giovanni) | |
| Giovanni | Let this Persian be a prime example of that. |
| (Giovanni's Persian cries out) | |
| Giovanni | Persian are very prideful Pokémon. To have a Persian accept you is proof that you are an exceptional Trainer. Proving your superiority is standard practice in business. Any Pokémon can be useful as long as you handle it well. However, Persian and I still have much to learn about battling on Pasio. As your superior, I plan to hone my skills in a way that will uphold our reputation. That is all. I expect great things from all of you. |
| (The grunts cheer) | |

| Sonia | "Shaderoot Carrots, dark as doom. ♪" "Crunched by the bully with a ghostly gloom. ♪" Get it? |
| Victor | So the "bully in white" is the Pokémon that Leon's Calyrex rides on... and the "bully with a ghostly gloom" must be talking about Spectrier! |
| Sonia | Exactly! |
| Victor | Do you love Shaderoot Carrots, then? |
| Victor | It seems like it'd be difficult to find vegetables from the Crown Tundra on Pasio... But I'll definitely find you some Shaderoot Carrots one of these days! Is it happy?: No... I have a feeling it still wants to blow off some steam. Is it angry?: Nah, I think it just wants to cut loose right now rather than eat carrots. So let's battle right now, Sonia! |
| Sonia | Huh?! A battle with me?! W-well, sure, I guess... OK! Bring it on! |

Sweet and Fancy
This event ran from February 14 to 28, 2024. It allowed players to recruit Scottie/Bettie & Alcremie.
Battles rewarded players with Whipped Cream Cakes, which could be redeemed in the shop for items to power up sync pairs and one Event Sync Pair Voucher. The Event Sync Pair Voucher could be redeemed in the shop for a sync pair formed between the player character and one of six different Alcremie, each of which had a different flavor of cream and sweet. Players could only team up with one Alcremie; however, each sync pair was functionally identical, allowing players to choose solely based on the Alcremie's decorations.
If the player did not redeem their Event Sync Pair Voucher, it was automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished. Extra Whipped Cream Cakes were also automatically exchanged.
This event reran from February 11 to 25, 2025. One additional form of Alcremie was added to the selection: Ruby Swirl with a Strawberry Sweet. Even if the player formed a sync pair with Alcremie from the previous run, they could still use the Event Sync Pair Voucher to team up with a different form of Alcremie. Selecting the same form of Alcremie will instead increase the sync pair's move level or reward the player with a 4★ Power-Up if the move level is at max. Everything else was the same as the previous run.

Riley & Lucario
This event ran from February 19 to March 31, 2024. It allowed players to recruit Riley & Lucario.
Battles rewarded players with Event Vouchers K, which could be redeemed in the shop for items to power up Riley & Lucario. Extra Event Vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.
A special log-in bonus was available alongside this run, which gave players 2 Custom 5★ Power-Ups for Riley & Lucario upon logging in for the first time each day for 10 days. This enabled players to raise Riley & Lucario to
6★ EX.
This event reran from September 9 to 21, 2024. Event Voucher K was replaced with Event Voucher X, and an exchange was available in the shop to convert Riley & Lucario's Sync Orbs into Co-op Sync Orbs for players who had already filled out this pair's sync grid. Despite being a 5★ sync pair, obtaining additional copies of Riley & Lucario after they reached their maximum move level awarded players with a 3★ Power-Up.
The event reran again from February 17 to March 31, 2025. Event Voucher K was replaced with Event Voucher W. A change made to the shop was that players could exchange vouchers for 5★ Custom Move Candies, giving players the choice to upgrade Riley & Lucario's move level or exchange them for 3★ Power-Ups. | (Forest; Chase and Elaine are battling Professor Oak and Nidorino) | |
| Chase | Wow... I didn't know Professor Oak was THIS strong! |
| Elaine | Yeah! I'm amazed, too! |
| Professor Oak | Hoho! I guess I never told you two before. When I was young, I was a serious Pokémon Trainer! |
| Elaine | A serious Trainer, huh... |
| Chase | I wonder what it would've beeen like to know you back then... |
| ??? | That old duff was tough and handsome. |
| (Agatha appears) | |
| Agatha | But that was decades ago. He's a shadow of his former self now. |
| Chase | Agatha! |
| Elaine | So, you knew Professor Oak back when he was really serious? |
| Agatha | Indeed. More than I'd have liked to, actually. As rivals, we used to battle each other a lot to see which one of us was stronger. |
| Chase | WOW! Professor Oak was rivals with an Elite Four member? |
| Professor Oak | Hahaha, it's a story of the past now! |
| Elaine | So that's why you're so good at battling with Nidorino—it's because you've trained a lot over the years! I was surprised, because Nidorino can't use as many moves as Nidoking. |
| Agatha | Oh ho... You've been studying well. I see what the old duff sees in you. But Pokémon are for battling! If you want to keep winning, I'd say you ought to evolve your Pokémon. |
| Chase | Hmm... Agatha has a point. Why haven't you evolved your Nidorino, Professor Oak? |
| Professor Oak | Well... The main reason is for Pokémon research! It goes without saying that Nidorino and Nidoking are different Pokémon. As a researcher, I need to know the strengths and best ways of battling with Nidorino... AND the best ways of battling with Nidoking! So, I'm now researching what's great about Nidorino by being partners with him. |
| Chase | Cool! |
| Elaine | That's amazing, Professor Oak! |
| Professor Oak | Another reason is... |
| (Flashback to Gengar and Nidorino battling in a forest; back to present) | |
| Professor Oak | Actually...never mind! |
| Chase | We should also get stronger by finding our partners' unique strength! |
| Elaine | Yeah! |
| Agatha | Well, well... I guess you both decided to take it easy like that old duff. Best of luck to you anyway. |
| (Agatha walks away, with Professor Oak watching her) | |

| Clavell | Yes. I've changed up my look—had an outfit makeover, one could say. What do you think? |
| Florian | You look great! But also... It's such a big change, I totally thought the Uve Academy director was here. |
| Clavell | Oh? The director you know must wear something like this, then. I'm glad to have switched up my look if it makes me more approachable to you. When I saw you with Nemona and the others... I was slightly concerned that you were the only one wearing a different-colored uniform. So I thought the least I could do is wear an outfit that matches yours, so you don't feel left out. |
| Florian | Director Clavell... |
| Clavell | Even if you came here from a different world, you're still an important student to me, Florian. From now on, please don't hesitate to rely on me just as you would the Uva Academy director. |
| Florian | Of course! Thank you very much! |
| Clavell | Oh, that's right. I haven't introduced you yet. |
| (Clavell sends out Sprigatito) | |
| Clavell | This is my new partner Pokémon, Sprigatito! I plan on doing my own Treasure Hunt with him on Pasio. I hope we'll all get to know each other better, even with my new look. |
| Florian | Absolutely! Nice to meet you, Sprigatito! |
| (Sprigatito meows happily) | |
Trivia
- The Sync Pair-Up Event Bugsy & Scyther has a few minor differences from special sync pair events:
- On its first run, its introductory story area could not be replayed. As a result, players had to complete the first battle in the event to team up with the featured sync pair.
- It featured battles against the featured sync pair, and there was a different set of opponents for the final battle.
- It had a gap of 976 days from the start of its initial run to the start of its second run, while every special sync pair event that has been rerun received its second run within a year.
- The first run of Victor & Spectrier was the only special sync pair event to have cap-unlock drinks available in the shop.
- Petey & Pikachu was the only special sync pair event to:
- allow players to team up with a sync pair with an initial potential of 3★.
- allow players to team up with a character based on a generic Trainer class.
- have duplicate copies of the featured sync pair cost 200 vouchers apiece.
- Sweet and Fancy was the only special sync pair event to:
- allow players to team up with a sync pair formed by Scottie/Bettie.
- give players an option for what sync pair to team up with.
- use an item other than a generic voucher as the exchange currency.
- not have sync pair-specific items available in the shop.
- not have enough materials to fully grid the featured sync pair available in the shop. Players could exchange for up to 750 co-op sync orbs, which is only equivalent to 75 sync pair-specific sync orbs.
- Riley & Lucario was the only special sync pair event to allow players to team up with a character introduced in the core series games that was not previously available in the game.
- Professor Oak & Nidorino was the only special sync pair event to feature a sync pair that had previously been established in the game; Professor Oak was shown to have Nidorino as a partner prior to forming a sync pair with Mew.
- The flashback in Professor Oak & Nidorino is a reference to the opening of Pokémon Red, Green, FireRed, and LeafGreen.
