A sound-based move (Japanese: 音技(おとわざ) sound move or (おと)(わざ) sound move) is any move that uses sound. Sound-based moves have a variety of unique properties and effects. The mechanic was introduced in Generation III.

While not an inherent property of sound-based moves, from Generation VI onward, all sound-based moves except Howl can hit Pokémon behind a substitute.

Liquid Voice Has all of the Pokémon's sound-based moves become Water-type.
Punk Rock Boosts the Pokémon's sound-based moves by 30%, and halves the damage it takes from sound-based moves.
