Explosive move

Explosion in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

An explosive move (Japanese: 爆発(ばくはつ)する(わざ) explosive move) is any damaging move that is based on explosions. Explosive moves have some unique properties and effects.

Explosive moves like Self-Destruct have existed since Generation I, but in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, explosive moves became a mechanic.

In the games

In the core series games, explosive moves have the following effects:

  • Explosive moves fail if used against a Pokémon with Damp.

All explosive moves target both opponents and the user's ally.

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, these moves instead cause the user recoil damage instead of fainting, with the exact recoil amount depending on the style used.
