Crunch in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

A biting move (Japanese: ()(わざ) biting move) is any move that is based on biting. Biting moves have some unique properties and effects. The mechanic was introduced in Generation VI.

Biting moves like Bite have existed since Generation I, but in Pokémon X and Y, biting became a mechanic.

In the games

In the core series games, biting moves have the following effects:

  • Biting moves used by a Pokémon with Strong Jaw are boosted by 50%.

While not an inherent property of biting moves, all biting moves are physical moves.
