Punching move

Bullet Punch in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

A punching move (Japanese: パンチを使(つか)(わざ) move that uses punches in the description of Iron Fist or パンチ(わざ) punching move in the description of Punching Glove) is any move that involves punching. Punching-based moves have a variety of unique properties and effects. The mechanic was introduced in Generation IV.

Punching moves like Ice Punch have existed since Generation I, but in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, punching became a mechanic.

In the games

In the core series games, punching moves have the following effects:

  • Punching moves used by a Pokémon with Iron Fist are boosted by 20%.
  • If a Pokémon holding a Punching Glove uses a punching move, it boosts the holder's attack by 10%.

While not an inherent property of punching moves, all punching-based moves are physical moves.
