Pokémon Tool cards can depict held items from the Pokémon games, such as Leftovers and the Rocky Helmet, or objects unique to Pocket and the wider Pokémon Trading Card Game. Pokémon Tool cards are color-coded as purple, as depicted on the card's design, Trainer type, and rule.
Pokémon Tool cards are played by attaching them to a Benched or Active Pokémon. Once a player attaches a Pokémon Tool card to a Pokémon, it may only be removed by the effect of a card, such as another Trainer card or a Pokémon's attack or Ability; removed Pokémon Tool cards are typically discarded, as are those attached to a Knocked Out Pokémon. Pokémon Tool cards typically provide a beneficial effect to the Pokémon they are attached to, for as long as they remain attached. Players are allowed to play as many Pokémon Tool cards from their hand as they wish during their turn, but cannot attach one to a Pokémon that already has a Pokémon Tool card attached to it. There are currently 13 different Pokémon Tool cards.
Pokémon Tool cards debuted in the Space-Time Smackdown expansion, which was released on January 30, 2025. Pokémon Tool cards in Pokémon TCG Pocket are usually of rarity.
