Trainer card (TCG Pocket)

A Trainer card (Japanese: トレーナーズ Trainers) is one of two types of card found in the Pokémon TCG Pocket, alongside Pokémon cards. While Pokémon cards do the direct attacking of an opponent's cards, Trainer cards provide a more supportive role, allowing a player to search through their deck, draw cards, or other special effects. During a player's turn, they may play a Trainer card from their hand, follow its instructions, and then discard it.
Types
Trainer cards can be divided into three primary categories: Item, Pokémon Tool, and Supporter; some of them have sub-categories as well. Each of the three primary categories of Trainer are color-coded: blue for Items, purple for Pokémon Tools, and orange for Supporters.
Item
- Main article: Item card (TCG Pocket)
The original type of Trainer card, a player can use as many Item cards as desired during their turn. Item cards have a wide range of effects and can be useful at any point in the game.
Pokémon Tool
- Main article: Pokémon Tool card (TCG Pocket)
Pokémon Tools are a special type of Trainer cards which function like held items; while a Pokémon Tool card is attached to a Pokémon, it provides the Pokémon with a special benefit. However, a Pokémon may have only one Pokémon Tool card attached to it at a time, and it may not be removed until the Pokémon is knocked out, unless specifically instructed by the effect of another card.
Supporter
- Main article: Supporter card (TCG Pocket)
Supporter cards are usually much more powerful than regular Item cards, and as such, a player may only use one Supporter card per turn. Supporter cards usually feature a human character from the Pokémon games.
Fossil
- Main article: Item card (TCG Pocket) → Fossil Item cards
Fossil Item cards are a sub-category of Item cards. They can be put into play as if they were Basic Pokémon, and certain Pokémon cards can be put on these cards to evolve them. Fossil Item cards can have energy attached to them, and cannot retreat, however they can be discarded at any point during the game. They also cannot be put in the Active Spot or on the Bench when setting up to play.
