A Poké Maniac (Japanese: かいじゅうマニア Monster Maniac; also known as マニア Maniac in Generation I), formatted PokéManiac in Generations I to III, is a type of Pokémon Trainer that first debuted in the Generation I games. They were originally presented as strange boys with long hair wearing trenchcoats. In Generation III, they were changed to cosplayers dressing up in Pokémon-like costumes. In Generation VII, Poké Maniacs cosplay as Slowpoke and, when defeated, imitate Slowpoke with their faces.

They tend to use Pokémon in the Monster Egg Group, such as Lairon, Lickitung, and Charmander.

In Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, Poké Maniacs will award three Poké Balls along with prize money upon being defeated.

Notable Poké Maniacs

In Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver, Kirk (known as Mania in Generation II), a Poké Maniac from Cianwood City, is well known for his arrogance. Hearing of this, Silver stole one of his two Pokémon, a Sneasel. Kirk begs the player to take Shuckie, his Shuckle, for safekeeping. Depending on how well Shuckie is treated, Kirk may or may not ask for Shuckie to be given back.

Aside from the Trainer class, the term Poké Maniac (Japanese: ポケモンマニア Pokémon Maniac) has also been used to refer to people that are deeply interested in rare Pokémon, most notably Bill and his father. However, in original Japanese version, this term is different from the class and does not carry the implication of liking Kaiju-like Pokémon. Probably for this reason, Bill's title was re-translated to Pokémon fanatic in the English version of Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!.
