Set 4 (Frienda)

The fourth Pokémon Frienda set was released on February 6, 2025 and consisted of 74 Frienda Picks.

Information

Legendary contemporaries Reshiram and Zekrom were the focal Pokémon for this set. The pair appeared as Grade 5 Super Treasure Pokémon, as did fellow Legendary dragon Pokémon Kyurem, completing the trio. The set concluded the Pokémon Horizons: The Series tie-in, which saw the remaining Six Heroes, Pokémon belonging to ancient adventurer Lucius, become available to encounter and catch. Lucius's Gouging Fire was featured as a Super Treasure Frienda Pick, while his Lapras and Kleavor featured as Grade 4 Treasure Frienda Picks. Players with Trainer Picks that caught at least one of the Six Heroes from this set would unlock the Professor's Goggles Dress-up Item, based on Friede's goggles from the series, which could be applied to their avatar through Frienda Circle.[1] Graphics on a player's Frienda Circle home page would also update each time one of the Six Heroes was caught.

The inclusion of Wellspring Mask Ogerpon in this set marked the appearance of all its forms in Pokémon Frienda. This Grade 5 Pokémon was capable of Terastallizing, as were Grade 5 Paradox Pokémon Iron Leaves, Iron Boulder, and Iron Crown, in addition to Grade 4 Dachsbun, Tinkaton, and Noivern. A number of Pokémon were also capable of using Z-Moves, including a Grade 5 Tyranitar, a Grade 5 Metagross, a Grade 4 Gigalith, and a Grade 4 Eelektross.

The fourth set introduced Trainer Battles (Japanese: トレーナーバトル) to Pokémon Frienda, which could activate randomly at the start of Battle and Catch! mode. Players could either decline and proceed with normal gameplay or accept and face the Trainer challenging them. Opting for the latter would shift the game to a stadium, where the player would engage in a 4-Pokémon battle over five turns. Opponents had a strength rating based on the Grade of Pokémon in their team and a battle could only be won by defeating all of their Pokémon. Bonus! Catch Time would follow a Trainer Battle, regardless of the outcome.[2]

Three standard Trainers were available to battle in this set: Fledgling Boy Youhei, Fashionable Girl Ayano, and Master Friender Sharisu. Two special animated series-related challengers also featured when the set launched: Explorers admin Amethio and a trio comprising Rising Volt Tacklers Liko, Roy, and Dot. Players not using a Trainer Pick could only face Fledgling Boy Youhei or Fashionable Girl Ayano in a Trainer Battle; those using a Trainer Pick could face all possible opponents and would also earn in-game rewards for defeating them. Defeating each of the standard Trainers would unlock a Dress-up Item based on their attire, while the special Trainers would each unlock a digital Support Pokémon Ticket. Each of the standard Trainers also had a set of three challenges, which could be completed in any order:

  • Win a battle without losing any Pokémon.
  • Win a battle using Frienda Picks exclusively from the current set.
  • Reach a target score. This scaled with the difficulty of the opponent:
    • 250,000 points for Fledgling Boy Youhei
    • 300,000 points for Fashionable Girl Ayano
    • 350,000 points for Master Friender Sharisu

Challenges were typically the same for standard Trainers in subsequent sets. Players that managed to clear all challenges for all three opponents would unlock another Dress-up Item. All progress could be tracked through Frienda Circle. Trainer Battle high scores were published on the official Pokémon Frienda website, which comprised the top 100 daily scores and the top 100 scores for each set's operational period.

Players with Trainer Picks could select Trainer Pick mode (Japanese: トレーナーピックモード) from the title screen beginning with this set, which would allow them to check their stats and battle the three standard Trainers. Facing Trainers in this way would cost ¥100 each time and those with a higher strength rating could not be selected until the preceding Trainer had been defeated.[3] Between March 13 and April 23, 2025, players could challenge a third special Trainer, Friede, as part of an online ranked event. This battle could be initiated by touching the event banner on the title screen and inserting ¥100 after the prompt. Players that managed to defeat Friede would unlock a digital Charizard Support Pokémon Ticket. Those with the top 100 scores following the end of the event would become eligible for a certificate, which could be applied for through Frienda Circle.[4]

If players used a Trainer Pick at any time between February 27 and March 12, 2025, they would receive a Super Treasure Sensor (Japanese: スーパートレジャーセンサー), which would remain active for eight days inclusive of the day it was obtained. While active, the sensor would have a chance of reacting on the area selection screen at the start of Battle and Catch! mode and reveal the Super Treasure Pokémon a player would face in a Climax Battle.[1]

The Eevee Evolution Road (Japanese: イーブイしんかロード) event began on updated machines on March 13, 2025, during which players could obtain Wonder Picks for as long as stocks lasted. If a Wonder Pick icon appeared on the title screen, players would have a chance of encountering an Eevee at the start of their Battle and Catch! mode session. This Eevee would be shown accompanying the player's avatar in cutscenes and would become a Support Pokémon during battle, occupying a fail space on the Pursuit Roulette. Eevee would attack with Covet if selected. Exploration Road would also feature a shining grass patch on a random space while players traveled with the Eevee; reaching it would reveal one of four possible items and cause the Eevee to evolve. The items and the Evolution they induced are as follows:

Players were then given the option to insert ¥100 to capture the Eeveelution. If they elected to do so, they were prompted to swipe upwards on the touchscreen to throw a Premier Ball at it, which would always succeed. The Eeveelution would then be dispensed as a Wonder Pick. Players with Trainer Picks would unlock an Eevee-themed Dress-up Item for their avatar after capturing at least one Eeveelution; they would also unlock a photograph on their Frienda Circle home page for each one caught. If a player caught all four Eeveelutions, the player's avatar would temporarily change into the Eevee-themed costume in the main hub and pose alongside them all for a photo opportunity.[5]

A notice was uploaded to Frienda Circle on March 13, 2025 stating that players who recorded activity with a Trainer Pick could immediately redeem a Spring Clothes Knitwear Dress-up Item; however, this was uploaded in error. In an apology uploaded to the official Pokémon Frienda website, it was announced that players who recorded activity on March 13 or 14, 2025 would automatically receive the Dress-up Item at the start of the intended redemption period, which ran between March 27 and April 9, 2025.[6]

Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly remained as Partner Pokémon options for this set. Players that had fully evolved at least one Partner Pokémon could select Tinkatink to raise. A digital Chi-Yu Support Pokémon Ticket was available to Frienda Circle members that logged in while this set was in operation; other physical tickets were included in Shogakukan publications and given away at events.

Frienda Circle members could also participate in a Frienda Circle Present Campaign that offered exclusive prizes. Two lotteries were held over the course of the campaign—the first was open between February 6 and March 12, 2025; the second was open between March 13 and April 16, 2025. During each lottery period, registered players could spend 100 points on the campaign page in attempt to win, and could do so as many times as they were able either until the end of the period or until all prizes had been claimed. Players would earn 10 points for every Frienda Pick dispensed during this set's operation. Accumulated points could be used in the first or second lottery period, but could not be used in subsequent campaigns. Players that won a prize were required to submit their details by April 23, 2025. Each lottery offered 250 copies of a golden door keychain and 250 copies of a Pokémon Frienda logo keychain. The prizes were distributed at random—those for the first lottery were scheduled to be shipped in early April 2025; those for the second were scheduled to be shipped in late May 2025.[7]
