This article is about the removed snowy mountains variant. For the current biome, see
Snowy Plains. For the current mountains, see
Mountains.
This page describes content that has been removed from the game.
This feature was present in earlier versions of
Java Edition, but has since been removed.
This article describes content that has been officially made unobtainable in
Bedrock Edition.
It can still be obtained using
third-party software. However, this can cause unexpected behavior such as bugs and
crashes.
The snowy mountains was a hills variant of the snowy plains that no longer generates since Caves & Cliffs: Part II, and was removed in Java Edition.

Description
These hills were no taller than most other hill biomes in the game, despite the name 'mountains'. As a hills variant, the biome was almost similar to the snowy plains. However, rivers generated inside this biome were not replaced by frozen rivers. No structures generated in this biome, though polar bears, rabbits and strays spawned. Caves frequently generated on the sides of the mountains. In Bedrock Edition, no hostile mobs other than strays and skeletons spawned here.
Mobs
Snowy mountains used the same mob spawning chances as snowy plains.
The following mobs spawned naturally here:
- ↑ 80% of spawned rabbits are white and 20% are black and white.
- ↑ Spawn attempt succeeds only in slime chunks.
