History

Background

200 years prior to the events of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet,[2] Heath, a writer and brilliant natural historian, was chosen to join the Area Zero Expedition survey team, which was sponsored by the director of Naranja AcademyS/Uva AcademyV at the time.

On the second day of the expedition, Heath and his team rested in a spot where a giant symbol has been inscribed on a long time ago, which was photographed by them. As they descended deeper, the group began to catch glimpses of mysterious Pokémon, one of their members was mortally wounded, forcing them to retreat. The beast was similar to a Donphan, but with great tusksS/treads of ironV. The team later discovered wondrous herbs that instantly impart vigor when eaten, they attempted to grow some in areas around Paldea, but they were eaten by wild Pokémon which in turn, grew large and strong. During their descent, the group came across a large metal plate inscribed with a strange symbol, even though they attempted to shave off a piece of it, the plate was way too resistent. After countless days, the group finally reached the very depths of Area Zero, there they found formations of gemstone shining blidingly blight as far as they could see.

At one point while exploring the depths of Area Zero, Heath strayed from his team and fell unconscious. He would then have an encounter with a strange entity, unaware that it's a Pokémon or even alive at all[3]. He later tentatively named it Terapagos, theorizing it to be the source of the crystallization phenomeon found on some Pokémon. When later found by the rest of the team, he could only remember speaking to someone in an unfamiliar place, as if in a dream. He was found with a page with his handwriting on it, even though he had no memory of actually writing it.

Upon returning from the expedition, Heath would publish his writings as the Scarlet BookS/Violet BookV. However, the contents of the book proved to be so fantastical that Heath and the rest of the Area Zero Expedition team were accused of lying and became widely discredited.

When SadaS/TuroV was a child, they got a copy of the Scarlet BookS/Violet BookV and become fixated with the idea of Pokémon from other eras.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

In the present day, a copy of Heath's Scarlet BookS/Violet BookV was donated to the Naranja AcademyS/Uva AcademyV.

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero

In The Teal Mask, Heath's descendant Briar was determined to prove that her ancestor was telling the truth, particularly about the existence of the Legendary Pokémon Terapagos. So she started researching on the Terastal phenomenon, eventually leading to her gaining permission to do her own Area Zero expedition by Geeta. In The Indigo Disk, she travelled through Area Zero and Area Zero Underdepths while aided by the player, Carmine, and Kieran. After encountering, defeating, and catching Terapagos, Briar finally succeeded in her mission by writing her own book: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, detailing their adventure in the Great Crater of Paldea.

Pokémon

Cyclizar is Heath's only known Pokémon. It was Heath's partner Pokémon and helped the expedition by carrying the team's luggage and equipment.

Legacy

In modern times, Briar has dedicated her life to studying Heath's work and seeking to reveal to the world the information he studied throughout his life. This motivated her to begin writing a book about Terapagos.

In The Pillar of Fire, Heath's research work on the Paradox Pokémon allowed Briar and the Rising Volt Tacklers to uncover the true identity of "Lucius's Entei" as a Gouging Fire.
