Plot
After PennychallengesDot to a Double Battle of their own, the two Trainers stand on opposite ends of the battlefield as Dendra, as the referee, explains they'll be using the same rules as the battle before. With Dot having the advantage considering the type match-ups, Dendra starts the battle. Penny makes the first move by having her Sylveon to use Moonblast that is blocked by Dot's Tinkatuff's Brutal Swing. Dot's Quaxwell lands a Liquidation on Penny's Sylveon, causing Penny to order her Pokémon to attack Tinkatuff simultaneously. While she was able to hold off the attacks, Dot attempts to have Quaxwell help Tinkatuff, but for some reason, he didn't act, leading to Tinkatuff being dealt damage. Dot realizes Quaxwell is infatuated with Penny's Sylveon thanks to the latter's Ability, Cute Charm, when he attacked with Liquidation earlier. As such, Quaxwell goes to attack Flareon, only for Sylveon to step in and make him retreat without doing anything. Frustrated, Tinkatuff knocks some sense into Quaxwell with her hammer as Dot asks, successfully removing the status condition, to the surprise of Penny and Nemona since it's usually removed when Sylveon is knocked out. With Quaxwell back to normal, both Trainers pull out their Tera Orbs and Terastallize their respective Pokémon. Sylveon attacks with Moonblast, and Quaxwell takes the attack after launching Tinkatuff into the air. Tinkatuff uses Slam onto the ground, and Quaxwell follows up with another Liquidation on Sylveon. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as Flareon defeats Quaxwell with Swift, winning Penny the battle. Everyone is impressed by the battle, with Uruto wanting to battle next. However, school hours have ended with the bell chiming, forcing Uruto to wait until next time.
In the meeting room of the Brave Olivine, the team goes over the data that Penny gathered, and Roy notices the newest Laquium Sign sighting was at the same ruins that they explored withRaifort the year before. Since it's nearby, Dot suggests they check it out, and everyone agrees, with Murdock preparing a picnic set for the younger members before they leave. Upon arriving at the area, the four members split up to cover more ground. While investigating, Liko comes across Karatō, a student of Naranja Academy who is looking for his Pokémon partner Scovillain, who disappeared the day before. While she hasn't seen the Pokémon, Liko promises to keep an eye for it just as Roy informs her everyone else has gathered for lunch at the watchtower.
The group settles down for a picnic, with Liko realizing this is Dot's first one with them. They bring up how Liko made a picnic set for Dot who preferred to stay in her room back then, with the latter admitting she had fun making sandwiches with Ludlow that time. The group have a fulfilling picnic before setting off for a second round of investigation. Dot muses how they'll need plenty of money to travel around if they want to spread the truth of the Laquium, especially since their funds primarily came from the odd jobs that Friede and Captain Pikachu did. Uruto's Sableye comes over with a worthless coin, causing Liko and Dot to recall how Roy collected plenty of coins when he was controlled by Gimmighoul, which Uruto finds humorous. Roy says he won't fall for it this time, which Uruto is skeptical of. All the while, the group doesn't realize they are being watched by the Coin Chest Pokémon.
The Rising Volt Tacklers resume their search. However, instead of clues, Roy ironically finds a Gimmighoul Coin, with everyone else joining in, except for Liko and her Pokémon, as a result of Gimmighoul's control. Liko notices her friends' absence while Pagogo wanders off, finding a certain area very familiar. It enters an opening and finds the Charcadet it had met last year. The two Pokémon interact with each other before Charcadet realizes three of its friends are missing. Liko calls out for Pagogo when she realizes it disappeared as well, only for Meowscarada to get her attention on footprints that emit pink smoke. She investigates further when she couldn't contact her friends, who were still looking for Gimmighoul Coins. They find a trio of wild Pokémon, who happens to be Charcadet's missing friends, fleeing from a rampaging Scovillain. Liko has Meowscarada distract Scovillain while her Hattrem heals the wild Pokémon with Heal Pulse, realizing in the process the Scovillain is Karatō's missing partner. Meowscarada is gradually getting overpowered by Scovillain's attacks, while Liko is unsure on her next step. The wild Happiny runs off scared, and Liko dives in to protect her from Scovillain's attack, only for it to never come. Liko looks up and sees Charcadet riding on Pagogo, remembering the Charcadet as the one from the year before as well. Facing Scovillain head on, Charcadet takes on the attack, not taking any damage thanks to its Flash Fire Ability. Charcadet also gains a boost in its Ember, allowing it to knock down Scovillain long enough for Pagogo to purify the Laquium from the Spicy Pepper Pokémon.
Liko brings Scovillain to Karatō, who is happy to reunite with his partner, before asking if he used a Strong Sphere. While surprised, Karatō confirms he uses a Strong Sphere, but it's not on him as he sent it back to Exceed to get it recharged after it ran out of energy from many uses. Karatō thanks Liko for bringing back Scovillain, and she returns to see Charcadet waiting for her with its friends. She sadly informs the Fire Child Pokémon of her need to leave and thanks it for helping them earlier. However, encouraged by Pagogo and its friends, Charcadet ends up stepping up and kneeling to Liko, offering its protection. Liko accepts Charcadet's offer and takes out a Poké Ball, allowing Charcadet to join her team.
Afterwards, Liko rejoins her friends and is exasperated to see them under Gimmighoul's control, snapping out of it a moment later. Back in the Brave Olivine, the younger members speculate how using the Strong Sphere could sever a bond between a Trainer and Pokémon, using the battle against the Explorers'Tauros as a possible reference. Dot then receives a video message from Iono, who asks to have a handshake event as their next collaboration. Dot reluctantly agrees to hold it as a means to earn some money, making Liko overjoyed. Meanwhile, the Gimmighoul from earlier has secretly stowed away on the airship.
