Southern California
Los Angeles, one of Southern California's major cities
Southern California was a region in California. The largest cities of this region were Los Angeles, located in Los Angeles County (a county in the Southland), and San Diego.
Each fall, the Santa Ana winds brought dry air into this region from the Great Basin. These winds contributed to the conditions for creating wildfires.
In 2024, there was an unprecedented number of wildfires in Los Angeles County. In one month alone, there were three serious wildfires. In a press conference, the fire chief of the county told reporters that they were facing the worst fire season in over a century. This unusual fire season was the subject of an article in the January 21, 2024, issue of the Los Angeles Times and this region was referred to twice in this piece. (PIC: "Watcher")
In 2047, the geography of this region was altered by the Hermosa Quake. This earthquake resulted in the sinking of land in Los Angeles County. In the aftermath of this quake, a coral reef developed and, by the late 24th century, was home to a wide variety of marine organisms. (VOY: "Future's End")
