Hermosa Quake

Los Angeles, 2401

Downtown LA, where certain neighborhoods, such as the Forward Avenue Historic District, were actually spared the effects of the Hermosa Quake.

The Hermosa Quake was a major earthquake that occurred on Earth in the year 2047.

During the event, the quake struck the region of southern California surrounding Los Angeles. A region of the city sank under two hundred meters of water. In the ensuing centuries, the region recovered, having transformed into one of the world's largest coral reefs. These reefs became home to thousands of different marine species. In 2401, Admiral Jean-Luc Picard visited Guinan's bar at the Forward Avenue Historic District in Los Angeles. The sign on the exterior wall said that district was one of the few parts of L.A. to be spared the effects of the Hermosa Quake. (PIC: "The Star Gazer")

The Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 1, p. 334 identified Hermosa as a location. In the "real world", there is Hermosa Beach, a coastal city in southwestern Los Angeles County.
