Spoiler warning: this article may contain major plot or ending details.
As Scarlet's battle against Iono continues, the latter reveals that her Mismagius has the Levitate ability, rendering any Ground-type moves useless against it. In response, Scarlet swaps out her Pikachu for Armarouge and attempts to have it use Night Shade. Mismagius avoids the attack by using Phantom Force, then knocks out Armarouge upon resurfacing.
Scarlet then sends out Floragato, but it is quickly confused by Mismagius, which leads it to knock itself out. Scarlet brings Pikachu back into the battle and commands it to attack with Feint. When Mismagius counters with Confuse Ray, Pikachu uses Double Team to multiply its image and raise its evasion rate. As Iono looks for the real Pikachu, she finds it playing with Mismagius. When Iono yells at her Pokémon to draw its attention back to the battle, Pikachu uses Thief to knock it out, giving Scarlet the victory.
Despite losing, Iono gloats that the battle attracted many viewers to her livestream. She awards Scarlet a Gym Badge, even though she initially attempts to refuse it. Approaching Scarlet after the battle, Nemona asks why she switched out her Pikachu and made the battle harder on herself. This leads Scarlet to reveal that prior to the battle, she had made a deal with Iono to give her an exciting match in exchange for access to a buffet at every food cart in Levincia. Nemona then takes off to prepare for her battle with Iono as Scarlet leaves to meet her client. Entering an isolated area of the city, Scarlet comes across Rika and Geeta, as well as Raifort. She asks for her client to reveal their identity.
Meanwhile, as Violet and Arven ride through Asado Desert on Miraidon, Old Roto is suddenly hacked by Cassiopeia. Cassiopeia tells the others that they are nearing the base of the Schedar Squad, a group of Team Star that is expected to soon be hiring someone for security. They advise Violet to raid the base before the security member arrives, to which he agrees. This angers Arven, who asserts that their next goal should be to acquire more Herba Mystica. Violet then decides to have Arven wait for the Titan while he takes on the base with Miraidon, leaving him behind. Worried about Violet, Arven calls Clavell.
After Raifort recognizes Scarlet's school uniform, the latter determines her to be her client. Rika and Geeta attempt to introduce themselves to Scarlet, but she leads her client past them without looking back. Later, when the two are alone, Raifort reveals that she hired Scarlet to collect information on the Ruinous Pokémon, saying she wishes to capture them before they can break free of their seal and wreak havoc across Paldea. Scarlet agrees to continue helping Raifort, but only on the condition that she will assist a certain boy in enrolling in Uva Academy. Raifort accepts, then goes on to explain that in order to unseal the Ruinous Pokémon, Scarlet will need the strength of a Pokémon called the "Iron Serpent," revealing she had last seen it being ridden by Violet.
The conversation is interrupted when Scarlet suddenly receives a phone call from Mela, who requests that she come protect the Schedar Squad's base.
