Lucius's Gouging Fire (Japanese: ルシアスのウガツホムラ Lucius's Ugatsuhomura), previously referred to mistakenly as Lucius's Entei (Japanese: ルシアスのエンテイ Lucius's Entei), is a Paradox Pokémon that Lucius caught on his journey to Laqua. It is the sixth and last of the Six Heroes that the Rising Volt Tacklers encountered on their journey, and the fifth one to join them, being placed under Liko's care. Currently, it is being contained in a restraining barrier by the Explorers.

History

Pre-series

Gouging Fire and Lucius

At some point in the past, like all Paradox Pokémon, Gouging Fire arrived in Area Zero through unknown means from either the ancient past, or an alternate timeline. 100 years prior to the events of the series, Lucius met and battled Gouging Fire in Area Zero before catching it in an Ancient Poké Ball. As one of Lucius's Pokémon, it became one of the Six Heroes, being known to "cover miles of ground". Due to Paradox Pokémon not being known at the time, it was mistaken with its modern-day counterpart, Entei.

Finally having reached Laqua, the Explorers found themselves in trouble after Gibeon meddled with the Laquium crystals found in the paradise. The Six Heroes released themselves from their Ancient Poké Balls and tried to contain the crystals, but to no avail. Afterwards, Rystal's Terapagos, Pagogo, transformed into its Stellar Form and gave some of its energy to the Six Heroes, allowing them to seal the Laquium away. As a result of this, Lucius was trapped in Laqua, Pagogo reverted into a dormant state, and the Six Heroes got scattered around the world, with Gouging Fire and its Ancient Poké Ball ending up back in Paldea's Area Zero.

At some point after the Black Rayquaza was released from its Ancient Poké Ball in The Ancient Poké Ball, it went after Gouging Fire and passed on the White Zygarde's message to it, asking it to find a worthy Trainer.

Gouging Fire, still mistaken with Entei, was first mentioned in Rivals in the Dark of Night!, when Diana encouraged Liko to go after the Six Heroes.

In Entei's Fierce Battle Cry!, following Siskel's directions from the previous episode, Liko, Roy, Dot, and Friede encountered Entei in an archipelago off the Olivine City coast and battled against it. Despite proving to be a very powerful opponent, they ultimately managed to strike back at it hard enough to gain its approval. However, Entei showed no reaction to Pagogo or the Six Heroes' Ancient Poké Balls. When a Raikou and a Suicune appeared nearby and Entei joined them, the Rising Volt Tacklers came to realize that this Entei wasn't one of the Six Heroes, but a wild Pokémon separate from them. Later, Briar contacted the Rising Volt Tacklers and informed them about sightings of a Pokémon resembling Entei within Area Zero.

Lucius and the Six Heroes' last moment together

Gouging Fire properly debuted in The Pillar of Fire, where it appeared before Liko, Roy, Dot, Friede, and Briar after sensing Pagogo. Despite its appearance initially leaving the group wondering whether if it actually was the Entei of the Six Heroes, Pagogo still resonated with it, clearing their doubts away. Gouging Fire reunited with its teammates and showed interest in joining them, but only after testing the strength of Liko and her friends, which required them to retrieve Lucius's old belt from within its fur. The Paradox Pokémon had the advantage for most of the battle, mainly due to it being a mostly unknown species, forcing the Rising Volt Tacklers to figure out and learn about the nature of its types, moves, and Ability. Eventually, Dot managed to find a way to lure Gouging Fire into a river in order to overcome its natural resistance to Electric-type moves and allow Captain Pikachu to deal massive damage, which gave Floragato the opportunity to grab the belt and pass Gouging Fire's test. Now under Liko's care, the five heroes, alongside Pagogo, summoned the remaining hero: the Black Rayquaza.

As the Rising Volt Tacklers traveled up Mount Pericarp in Where the Land Meets the Sky, Gouging Fire was summoned from its Poké Ball by Pagogo to save the Rising Volt Tacklers from a giant boulder rolling towards them. After returning to Laqua in Guided by the Black Rayquaza!, the Six Heroes reunited with Lucius once he was freed from the Laquium cluster by the White Zygarde. Later, Gouging Fire and the other heroes lent Pagogo their strength, allowing it to transform into its Stellar Form and purify Laqua from the Laquium in Where the Adventure Leads. While most of the Laquium was gone, resulting in Lucius and Gibeon fading away, Spinel had managed to store enough of it to use on the Six Heroes, resulting in them all going berserk, except for Rayquaza. As revealed in HZ091, in the aftermath of these events, the Six Heroes, minus Rayquaza, were captured by the Explorers.

Personality and characteristics

Gouging Fire is a wise Pokémon that likes to test the strength and conviction of its Trainers, which it does by hiding its Ancient Poké Ball in its fur and challeging them to retrieve it. This challenge can be taken more playfully as well, as it used to do with Lucius in the past. Gouging Fire is a fierce, experienced, and powerful warrior, whose Fire-type moves are able to protect itself and attack at the same time, managing to overwhelm in battle even when outnumbered by its opponents.
