Game-based Evolution

Game-based Evolution refers to Pokémon that evolve when leveling up in a certain game. This method of Evolution was introduced in Generation VII.

A game-based Evolution is triggered once the Pokémon levels up at the end of a Pokémon battle or by the use of a Rare Candy. All game-based Evolutions are branched Evolutions depending on the current game.

In Rising from the Ruins!, Ash's Rockruff evolved into a Dusk Form Lycanroc.

In Revealing the Stuff of Legend!, Nebby evolved from Cosmoem into a Solgaleo.

In The Eclipse, Nebby evolved from Cosmog into Cosmoem and then Lunala.

In the manga

Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon arc

In Summon the Emissaries of the Moon and the Sun, Guzma's Cosmoem and Nebby evolved into Solgaleo and Lunala, respectively.

Pokémon Horizon

Akira's Rockruff has the unique ability to evolve into Lycanroc and then devolve into Rockruff again, thanks to the strange red stone on its neck. It also has the ability to change in between its Midday and Midnight Forms while being evolved.
