Evolution Mode

Evolution Mode[1] or Evo Mode[2] is the game mode used to evolve Pokémon in Pokémon Pinball and Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire.

Mechanics

In both games, the player is required to light up the three Evolution Arrows (the three triangles pointing up at the left side of the table) to enable the Evolution Mode. This is accomplished by throwing the ball up through the Left Loop (the Left Outside Loop in the Red Table) three times. This may cause the ball to turn clockwise at the top of the table.

Alternatively, the Evolution Mode is also one of the prizes available from the Slot Mode.

Once the Evolution Mode starts, the player chooses a Pokémon to evolve. If the player obtains three Evolution Items, the Center Hole opens. If the ball enters the Center Hole before the time is up, the Pokémon evolves.

If the chosen Pokémon successfully evolves, the evolved species is added as caught in the Pokédex and two Poké Balls are added to the Counter below the Pokémon Panel.

Pokémon Pinball

In Pokémon Pinball, the Evolution Mode is available if there is any Pokémon caught in the current game.

A Pokémon that is normally unable to evolve (i.e., one that is fully evolved or is not in any evolutionary line) can still enter the Evolution Mode. In this case, it will evolve into the same species.

In this game, Eevee is the only Pokémon with branched Evolutions. It evolves randomly into any of the three Eeveelutions.

Red Field

Evolution Cave
(Absent Ditto)

Once the three Evolution Arrows are turned on, the Ditto at the top-left corner almost completely disappears and stops blocking the Evolution Cave. The Evolution Mode starts when the ball enters the Evolution Cave.

Blue Field

Once the three Evolution Arrows are turned on, the Dash Arrow (the arrow that randomly points between four directions) is able to point at the Slowpoke. The Evolution Mode starts when the ball quickly enters and leaves Slowpoke's mouth.

Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire

In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, the Evolution Mode is available if there is any Pokémon caught in the current game that is not yet fully evolved.

In this game, Gloom and Clamperl are the only Pokémon with branched Evolutions. They evolve into Vileplume and Huntail in the Ruby Field, or into Bellossom and Gorebyss in the Sapphire Field.

Ruby Field

Pokémon Center

Once the three Evolution Arrows are turned on, the Pokémon Mart is converted into a Pokémon Center (also known as Evo Gate). The Evolution Mode starts when the ball enters the Pokémon Center.

Sapphire Field

Once the three Evolution Arrows are turned on, the Evo Gate is opened between the Plusle Switch and Minun Switch and the TV Screen displays "EVO". The Evolution Mode starts when the ball enters this gate between Plusle and Minun.
