History

Dan, 15 years ago

When Dan was younger, he worked as a fisherman. He raised Tyler from his childhood and would take him on boat rides. 15 years prior to the start of the series, Dan encountered a wild Spheal who jumped into his boat while he was out fishing. After unsuccessfully trying to return it back to the sea, Dan decided to adopt it and become its Trainer, raising it until it evolved into a Sealeo.

In Is That Really the Best Option?, Dan visited the Pokémon Resort with his Sealeo as a guest, chatting with Tyler and Haru about his life with Sealeo, and how it didn't have enough space to play in the city. While at the Resort, Dan and his Sealeo both had fun throughout the day, only for Dan to disappear the next day. Haru eventually found him in the ship departing from the Resort island, seemingly abandoning his Sealeo there. After the ship was forced to head back due to Sealeo stopping it, Dan apologized to everyone, and later explained that he feared not being able to raise Sealeo anymore as it gets bigger and bigger. He argued to Tyler that Sealeo is much happier living on the island than on the city; Tyler agreed and pleaded Watanabe to allow Sealeo to stay. While Watanabe was hesitant at first, she eventually relented and allowed Sealeo to stay, but only if Dan also stayed as a concierge at the Pokémon Resort, which Dan accepts.

In I'm a Role Model Now?, Dan is trained under Haru as the Pokémon Resort's newly-hired concierge. Despite Haru's worries that she might not be a good teacher, Dan was grateful to be taught by her and was impressed by Haru's thoughtfulness towards the Pokémon. While breaking off two Metagross that were fighting, Dan yelled so loudly that the entire island can hear it, which causes the Metagross to apologize and make up immediately. Haru pointed out that he accidentally terrified all the other Pokémon with his voice, so to defuse the tension, Haru decided to have her and Dan perform tricks with Psyduck and Sealeo.

Character

According to Tyler, when Dan was younger, he had a tough and powerful physique. Tyler also recalled Dan being "super scary" and angrily scolding young Tyler whenever he caused trouble. In the present day, an older Dan is calmer and more laid-back, although if pushed to his limit, he can still get angry and yell so powerfully that it can be heard throughout the entire Pokémon Resort island.

Dan is kind and is shown to be very attentive towards Pokémon, and can train them to do tricks. He is also a quick learner, able to quickly grasp and apply Haru's teachings.

Dan's Sealeo

Sealeo is Dan's only known Pokémon.

According to Dan, Sealeo met him 15 years ago as a Spheal. She suddenly hopped onto Dan's boat while he was out fishing, and didn't seem to want to leave the boat, so Dan decided to adopt her and become her Trainer. As Spheal grew and evolved into Sealeo, Dan worried that he might not be able to keep up with raising her, so he decided to take her to the Pokémon Resort — where she's given lots of room to play and fun activities to do — and abandon her there. The Resort staff and Sealeo eventually caught up to him, and Dan apologized for his actions. Dan still wanted Sealeo to stay on the Resort island where she is much happier than she was in the crowded city, so Watanabe agreed to have her stay, on the condition that Dan also stays on the island as a concierge.

Sealeo has a cheerful personality, although she can be rather rowdy, especially with her large size. She loves bouncing balls on her head. Dan can call for or command Sealeo by whistling.

None of Sealeo's moves are known.
