Watanabe (Japanese: ワタナベ Watanabe), known as Ms. Watanabe (Japanese: ワタナベさん Watanabe-san) by her employees, is a character in Pokémon Concierge. She supervises over the Pokémon Resort.

History

Watanabe is the head of staff at the Pokémon Resort, acting as the supervisor to her employees Haru, Alisa, and Tyler. As the head of staff, she is also responsible for the Pokémon at the Resort, whether it be staying guests, Pokémon that are on staff, or a few wild Pokémon on the island. Watanabe does various jobs at the Pokémon Resort, such as taking bookings and giving massages to guests.

On Haru's first day at work, Watanabe personally welcomed her to the Pokémon Resort and assigned her first task — to enjoy the Resort as if she was a guest. While initially confused, Haru eventually does learn to enjoy the Resort, including receiving a massage from Watanabe herself. On the next day, Watanabe invited Haru for some morning tea. Haru, embarrassed for having fallen asleep in Watanabe's presence during her massage, tried to "make up" for the situation by preparing an activity report and personal work policy, but Watanabe instead simply asked Haru how her day at the Resort went. Haru eventually learned to let loose and not worry so much, and Watanabe gave Haru a bandana as the uniform for concierges at the Resort. Watanabe tasked Haru to find a Pokémon and make it feel the same way she did, which Haru succeeded in by the end of her second day.

Character

Watanabe is kind and soft-spoken. She runs the Pokémon Resort with the enjoyment of her guests in mind, and while she generally oversees her employees' activities, she also tends to have a hands-off approach for them — she tasked Haru on her second day to make a Pokémon at the Resort feel the same way she does, but provides no further instructions, forcing Haru to solve the task on her own.

Watanabe showcases great compassion towards Pokémon; notably, she was very upset when Dan tried abandoning his Sealeo at her Resort.

Watanabe is a skilled masseuse, and claims to be able to make a Pokémon fall asleep with just a touch. She also has a high spice tolerance, as she is able to eat Tyler's spicy curry in Welcome to the Pokémon Resort! without breaking a sweat.

Pokémon

Watanabe doesn't own a specific Pokémon, but she is responsible for taking care of Pokémon that stay at the Resort and a few wild Pokémon on the island, including a Psyduck that she looked after for two weeks before Haru eventually befriended it.
