The mine is an entrance into a subterranean tunnel located in Earth, primarily used for harvesting materials such as iron or diamonds.

Layout

The entrance to the mine consists of wooden beams supporting a cuboid tunnel into the underground, adorned with rails. Beside the entrance is a sign, forbidding children from entering. Beyond that is a more realistic, modern depiction of a mine, with vehicles such as a crane and metal barrels.

History

The underground was an idealized location for Steve when he was young, with the mine becoming an integral narrative device in the plot. Held right outside Chuglass,^[1] Steve faced many challenges that blocked the entrance to the mine, notably the old miner who guarded it.

Thirty years later,^[1] during work, Steve arranged his lunch in a way that reminded him of the mine, so he returns to the mine as an adult. He was able to enter the mine this time by dodging past the old miner, who was curiously still there even after thirty years. While spelunking, he mines for various materials until he uncovers two strange artifacts: the Orb of Dominance and the Earth Crystal. He puts the Orb into the Crystal, activating a hidden portal leading to the Overworld.

Many years later, Henry was led to the mine by the newly re-activated Orb of Dominance, closely followed by Garrett. They were soon joined by Natalie and Dawn. After some brief confusion, all four were sucked through the portal into the Overworld. Later, a nitwit went through the same portal and emerged from the mine himself, impressed by his surroundings. As he wandered out, he passed by Dennis, who was himself venturing into the depths.
