Grimace is a character appearing in commercials for the fast food brand McDonald's, initially appearing as a villain and then a sidekick to Ronald McDonald. In 2025, he appeared in several promotions for A Minecraft Movie.

Appearance

Grimace is a large, purple grimace[1] known for his distinctive, bell-like silhouette. In the Overworld, he takes on a more cubic, cone-like shape, with his body taking the shape of three blocks. His eyes are made more square, with perfectly square pupils and rectangular eyebrows, though an unchanged mouth. His arms and legs are similarly square, though no less dexterous.

Personality

Grimace is a very silly, joyous figure, if not particularly intelligent. What he lacks in intelligence, he makes up for in energy, never giving up and exploring new horizons. Upon discovering blocks, he ecstatically placed them in a "fun" manner, similar to Steve. However, he is also shown to be quite cowardly, fleeing at the first sight of zombies. In spite of this, the McDonald's Add-On depicts him as not completely defenseless, actively fighting mobs.

He has also been depicted as very joyous, marveling at the sight of images of himself, as well as mobs. He takes great pride in exploring and tinkering, often so overwhelmed with delight that he says next to nothing while playing games or enjoying food.

Biography

One day, for unknown reasons, Grimace and his friends emerged through an Earth Portal. The three took a quick liking, Grimace discovering the functions of blocks. Soon, he discover the dragon egg out in some grass, but was quickly discovered by the undead as night fell. Rushing into a hamburger house, Birdie and Hamburglar were quick to join him. However, a zombie had already gotten inside.

At a later date, he and Hamburlar decided to play Minecraft from within their dirt hut, inviting Birdie over from her nest. However, they quickly ran into technical difficulties, a heavy camera falling down and requiring great effort to reinstall. Once Birdie arrived, they began to search out some of their merchandise, redeeming codes for McDonald's skins. Upon claiming their skins, he began to experiment with add-on features.

Playing with Birdie, he tries many items new to him, overjoyed to see how he's represented in the game. He brings Birdie over to a structure he made; a secret stash in the ground full of rare items. On the way out, he struggles to cover the hole, and gets frightened by a cow.

Trivia

What the Grimace Shake looks like.
  • McDonald's introduced the Grimace Shake in June 2023 as part of a "Grimace's Birthday" meal to commemorate Grimace's 52nd birthday. However, the shake became extremely popular because of a TikTok trend in which influencers would record themselves acting as though they had died or gone through terrible experiences after consuming the shake.
