Gameplay

The player begins by entering a cave through a transparent portal leading them from the Overworld to the Ichorous Grove where the cave is in. Small plants grow on the floor while streams of ichor flood parts of the cave, damaging the player when touched. At the end of the cave, which leads to the Dark Forest, they encounter Mouldywarp, a wizard who tells them whether the player is the hero they summoned or an agent to the Ichorous Serpent, a malevolent serpentine creature who invaded the Ichorous Grove. Afterwards, Mouldywarp will follow the player and appear with puffs of colored stars.

Exiting the cave leads to the Dark Forest, a stormy forest full of blue-colored trees, rough hills, and ichor puddles. Mouldywarp warns the player about the Gnawlings, a group of vicious rats who work as servants to the Ichorous Serpent by attacking the hero and their allies and constitute a source of lapis mana on death. The player starts with their inventory having the Heal spell on, which allows them to summon a healing ring at the cost of 40 gold mana, collected from chests and killing chest carrier satin rats. On the way, the player encounters a Purple Serpent Wall, which costs 1 lapis mana to destroy and unlocks the ability to destroy Green Serpent Walls. All Serpent Walls have been created by the Ichorous Serpent and block the way to other paths and the Nexus, a hub connecting the Dark Forest with Lichen Cave and Warren Castle.

Destroying all Green Serpent Walls in the Dark Forest unlocks the Tornado ability, which lifts Gnawlings to the air and scatters them. Destroying all Green Serpent Walls in Lichen Cave increases knockback caused by the player's sword, and destroying all walls in Warren Castle unlocks the Explosion ability, which summons an explosion in a chosen area.

Along the way in the Dark Forest, the player can collect animals to take as company to follow them. These animals include badgers, marmots and ocelots, and teleport to the player while being immune to death. A fox will always spawn in the Nexus on the left side of the central pillar.

Lichen Cave houses a cave will tunnels, stairs, bouncy yellow blocks and ichor lakes, while Warren Castle has halls with organized ichor streams and lakes, as well as incomplete bridges. Both the Cave and the Castle have chests along the way.

In Warren Castle, reaching the gate to the Lair of the Ichorous Serpent leads to an argument between the Serpent and Mouldywarp, ending by finding out that it requires lighting up four ceremonial fires to unseal the gate. There are two fires in Lichen Cave, one in the Dark Forest and one in Warren Castle. Lighting each fire cracks the gate, and lighting all fires destroys the gate.

When returning to the Dark Forest through portals, Autumn finds themself stuck inside an orb in a cave. Reaching Autumn frees them, but they refuse to join in. Mouldywarp tries their best to convince Autumn, until they mention ichor poisoning acorn, after which Autumn becomes eager to join the hero as a pet.

Destroying every green wall unlocks the ability to destroy Blue Serpent Walls which, after destroying them all, teleports the player to the Ichorous Serpent's arena in Warren Castle provided all four ceremonial fires have been lit. In the arena, the Ichorous Serpent rises out of the ground, starting the battle. Defeating the Ichorous Serpent ends the myth.
