Chess Legends is one of the myths in Minecraft Legends, developed by House of How.

Gameplay
Chess Legends follows the same rule as regular chess, except that the board is located inside a colosseum, and the player controls the movement of pieces using their banner.
Pre-game
Before they start playing, the player has the option of interacting with the buttons located on a side of the board: three piece theme buttons for each team, a reset button, a timer start button, which starts the game, and a difficulty setter. There are three themes for the pieces: regular, allies and piglins. The mobs below represent specific chess pieces.
| Pieces | Ally theme | Piglin theme |
|---|---|---|
| Pawn | ||
| Rook | ||
| Knight | ||
| Bishop | ||
| Queen | ||
| King |
The player then has the option to interact with the difficulty button to set the opponent's difficulty, and the timer button to start the game.
Layout
There are two rows of pieces for each team: a foremost row entirely made up of pawns, and a second row behind it consisting of other pieces: two rooks, two knights, two bishops, a queen, and a king. A rook is placed in each corner of the board, with a knight next to each rook, then a bishop next to each knight. A queen and a king are placed between the two bishops, the king always being on the right.
Game
The chess game lasts 30 minutes after the timer button has been interacted with.
The player has to select a piece to move using the Select Piece button in their inventory, then choose where to move it in using the Move Piece button. The following are the rules of moving specific pieces:
- A pawn can only move one square to the front, two squares at the pawn's first move. Pawns can move one square to the front diagonally when capturing a piece.
- A rook can move along the board to the front, backward, left or right.
- A knight can move in an L-shaped path on any side.
- A bishop can move diagonally across the board.
- A queen combines the movements of a rook and a bishop.
- A king can only move one square on its surroundings, but not on a square occupied by an enemy piece's capture range.
When an enemy piece is in the range of capture of any allied piece, the player has the option of capturing the enemy piece, moving it to their side of the board among captured pieces. All pieces move before capturing the enemy piece, with the exception of pieces based on ranged mobs, which shoot a projectile on the captured piece before moving to its place. A king in an enemy piece's capture range is considered in check, meaning most movement of all pieces is hindered in favor of blocking the attacking piece or moving the king to a safe square.
Putting the enemy king in check while hindering all safe squares is considered checkmate and the capturing player wins, whereas hindering the king's movement without putting it in check is considered a stalemate.
