Orion III

Orion III was an inhabited third planet in the Pi³ Orionis system. This planet was located inside the Orion sector in the Alpha Quadrant and was approximately 26.172 light years (8 parsecs) from Sol. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, production art; TNG: "Conspiracy", display graphic; VOY: "Good Shepherd")

As part of a vision quest, Tom Paris told Chakotay that word had just come in from Vegas, Mars, and Orion III that the odds were 33:1 that Kid Chaos would outpoint him and 11:1 that he'd be k.o.ed by the fifth round. Background information

This planet was only mentioned in dialogue.

The Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 2, p. 113 identified this planet as the home of a civilization. It was not clear if this civilization was the Orion, or another unnamed civilization.

The location of Orion, a sister planet to Orion III, located this world in the Alpha Quadrant on star charts from the Star Trek: Discovery episode "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad" and in the Star Trek: Picard episode "Maps and Legends".

Apocrypha

The novels Silent Weapons, The Light Fantastic, and Tower of Babel referred to the planet interchangeably as Orion III, Orion Prime, Pi-3 Orionis III, the Orion homeworld, or simply, the planet Orion.
