An Ultra Challenge (Japanese: ハイパーチャレンジHyper Challenge) is a type of special stage in Pokémon Shuffle that is generally a harder version of Great Challenges. Like Great Challenges, the format is move-limited and they feature powerful Pokémon; but the Pokémon usually have higher Attack Power. These stages cost Coins or Hearts to play, but they tend to cost more Coins or Hearts than most other stage types. To play an Ultra Challenge, the player must have cleared main stage 150.
For the game's end-of-service period, Ultra Challenges began running on a consistent 24-week cycle, with each lasting for one week. Ultra Challenges will never run during the same week as an UB Challenge (which occurs every 3 weeks, except for week 24).
During the game's live service period, 18 different Ultra Challenges were held. The end-of-service events keep most of these, but downgrade Bewear, Kommo-o, and Golisopod into Great Challenges instead. Marshadow and Shiny Ho-Oh are also added - these Pokémon were previously not available to be battled in any format (though Shiny Ho-Oh was previously distributed as a gift). As a result of these changes, Ultra Challenges now consist of only Legendary and Mythical Pokémon.
