Raichu's Best Friend (Japanese: 一番の友達 Best Friends) is the 14th bonus chapter of the Magical Pokémon Journey manga.

Plot

With Pikachu, Clefairy, Eevee, and Charmander, Squirtle shares a photo taken of themselves and Hazel from a trip to an island not too long ago. To their surprise, there is a ghostly shadow holding onto Pikachu in the photo. There is a sudden chill in the area, and the shadow appears over Pikachu, frightening the Pokémon. The shadow then switches into the form of a human girl, who introduces herself as Sandy. Sandy apologizes for trying to hug Pikachu, then asks the group if they could help her find her Raichu, who had passed away with her 150 years ago when they were caught in a tidal wave. She suggests they start by searching at the Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town. The Pokémon are reluctant, causing Sandy to threaten to haunt them, scaring them by making blood rain down her face.

Sandy and the Pokémon arrive at the Pokémon Tower. She urges the others to enter, saying that her spirit cannot pass through the doors due to an unknown force repelling her. Charmander wonders aloud if Raichu has already gone to heaven, which Sandy loudly denies, saying she knows that the two of them were always supposed to go together. Moved by her love for Raichu, the Pokémon enter the tower. As they walk past rows of graves, Eevee complains of Charmander touching one of his ears from behind. Charmander, revealed to be walking ahead of him, turns around in confusion. Both he and Eevee then notice another Charmander, covered in blood. Everyone then finds themselves surrounded by the spirits of deceased Pokémon, who grab onto them in order to steal their souls. They cry out to Raichu for help, and to their surprise, it appears. Assuming that the Pokémon are friends of Raichu's, the ghosts let them go, and disappear.

The Pokémon attempt to explain to Raichu that Sandy has been searching for it. Raichu refuses to believe it, saying that she had abandoned it. It reveals that it had been the reason Sandy is unable to enter the tower. Squirtle and Charmander try to convince Raichu of Sandy's love for it, but it shocks them with an Electric attack, telling them to stop talking.

Raichu explains that when it was alive, it had shocked someone who had hurt it, leading Sandy's parents to trap it in a box and cast it out into the ocean. It waited for Sandy to rescue it, but she never came. Charmander points out that Sandy told them a completely different story. Sandy then yells through the door, revealing that she tried to rescue Raichu, but was caught in a tsunami. Raichu refuses to listen to her, causing Charmander, Squirtle, and Eevee to tell it to believe her, saying their human friends would never leave them behind. As Sandy yells out to them, Pikachu throws itself at Raichu. The two share a telepathic connection for a brief moment, causing Raichu to see a memory of himself in Sandy's arms.

Sandy is suddenly let through the door. She and Raichu reach out toward one another, then embrace.

Later that night, the Pokémon walk home together, happy about Sandy and Raichu's reunion. They begin to think about their respective human friends, grateful for their friendship. A voice calls down from the heavens, telling the Pokémon to take care of their best friends.
