A Pokémon's condition (Japanese: コンディション condition) is made up of stats that exist for use in Pokémon Contests, Super Contests, Contest Spectaculars, and Super Contest Shows. There are five different condition stats: Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness, and Toughness. They range from 0 to 255.

For each of these five conditions, there are individual contest categories where Pokémon are judged by how developed they are in the relevant stat. In order to improve a condition stat, Pokémon can be given Pokéblocks and Poffins made from Berries. A Pokémon's condition cannot be decreased or reset, and is retained even when a Pokémon is traded or transferred to a game where it has no effect.

Characteristics

A Pokémon with an enhanced condition stat will score higher when competing in a contest with the same title as that condition. A Pokémon's condition will be judged in the following rounds:

This can also be assisted with the use of scarves. A Pokémon holding a scarf corresponding to the category of the contest entered will gain bonus points in the final score.

Moves

In Generation III, IV, and VI, every move that a Pokémon can learn is associated with one of the five conditions. Depending on the category of the contest, moves of a particular category will affect the audience's excitement in Contests and Contest Spectaculars and the Judges' Voltage in Super Contests.

Category Reaction to moves
Excitement Indifference Discontent
Coolness Contest  Cool   Beautiful   Tough   Clever   Cute
Beauty Contest  Beautiful   Cool   Cute   Clever   Tough
Cuteness Contest  Cute   Beautiful   Clever   Cool   Tough
Cleverness Contest  Clever   Cute   Tough   Beautiful   Cool
Toughness Contest  Tough   Clever   Cool   Beautiful   Cute

In Generation VIII, moves are no longer divided by condition.

Berries

Each Berry flavor (in Generation III, IV, and VIII) and color (in Generation VI) represents a specific condition stat, as shown below.

Condition Flavor Color
Coolness Spicy Red
Beauty Dry Blue
Cuteness Sweet Pink
Cleverness Bitter Green
Toughness Sour Yellow

Natures

In Generation III, IV, and VIII, a Pokémon's Nature determines its favorite flavor and its disliked flavor. This affects how much its condition will be increased when it is fed a Pokéblock or Poffin with those flavors, in a similar fashion to its effect on battle stats.

No change ↘ Decreased effect ↓
Coolness Beauty Cuteness Cleverness Toughness
Increased effect ↑ Coolness Bashful Adamant Brave Naughty Lonely
Beauty Modest Docile Quiet Rash Mild
Cuteness Timid Jolly Hardy Naive Hasty
Cleverness Calm Careful Sassy Quirky Gentle
Toughness Bold Impish Relaxed Lax Serious

In Generation VI, a Pokémon's Nature has no effect on how much a Pokéblock will increase a Pokémon's condition.

If Feebas's Beauty condition is 170 points or more, it will evolve into Milotic when it is leveled up. Prior to the introduction of the Prism Scale in Generation V, this was the only way to evolve Feebas; however, even in games that include the Prism Scale, Feebas can evolve by level up if its Beauty condition is high enough.

Checking condition

In Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, a Pokémon's condition can be viewed in the PokéNav. In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, and Box Ruby & Sapphire, it is shown on the Pokémon's summary screen.
