When held by a Pokémon, it raises its Toughness in the primary round of a Pokémon Contest, the Visual Competition of a Super Contest, and the Introduction Round of a Contest Spectacular.

In Generation III, it is raised by 20 points, up to a total of 255 points.

BDSP	An item to be held by a Pokémon. During a Super Contest Show, it raises the Toughness of the Pokémon holding it.
SV	When a Pokémon holds this during a contest, it looks even tougher than usual.

Before competing in the Master Rank Contest, Ruby was given all five scarves, which he used to enhance the respective conditions of five of his Pokémon, leading all of them to win the Contest and fulfilling Ruby's part of the 80-day challenge with Sapphire. He used the Yellow Scarf to enhance Mumu's Toughness.
