Stargazer history
The name Stargazer had a long-standing history as a ship name from the 23rd century to the 25th century.
History
United Federation of Planets
In the 23rd century the USS Stargazer was a Radiant-class starship. A 24 kt gold-plated model of this starship was displayed alongside its successors, the USS Stargazer (NCC-2893) and the USS Stargazer (NCC-82893) in the latter's ready room in 2401. (PIC: "The Star Gazer")
The USS Stargazer (NCC-2893) was a Constellation-class starship operated by Starfleet in the 24th century that was launched in 2326 on stardate 3897.1. (TNG: "The Battle" dedication plaque(X); PIC: "The Star Gazer" commemorative plaque(X)) In 2333, Jean-Luc Picard served as a bridge officer and he described the Stargazer as an "overworked, underpowered vessel, always on the verge of flying apart at the seams." Following the death of the captain, Picard was promoted to captain of the vessel for his actions, post he held for twenty-two years. In 2355, the Stargazer fought in the Battle of Maxia against the Ferengi Alliance and had to be abandoned due to severe damage. It was eventually found adrift and salvaged by Ferengi DaiMon Bok who attempted to enact a revenge plot against Picard. After the plot's failure, the Stargazer was recovered by the USS Enterprise-D and later sent to the Fleet Museum at Athan Prime, where it was restored and put on display in 2402. The USS Stargazer (NCC-82893) was a Sagan-class Federation starship operated by Starfleet in the 25th century. It was the first of its class to be equipped with components derived from research on the Borg technology of the Artifact. In 2401, the Stargazer acted as the flagship of a Federation fleet sent to investigate an anomaly, only to be contacted by an atypical Borg faction. The Borg Queen assimilated the ship's systems and used it to take control of the Starfleet armada but, recognizing her as Dr. Agnes Jurati, Admiral Picard cancelled the auto-destruct and let her proceed, giving Seven of Nine a field commission as the commanding officer of the Stargazer. The Stargazer's fleet and the Singularity subsequently worked together to stop an approaching energy wave from an opening transwarp conduit that threatened millions of lives. The Stargazer later took part in the Frontier Day celebrations where, along with the rest of the fleet, it was seized by the Borg Collective after its younger crew were assimilated by a Borg signal transmitted via Jack Crusher. It survived the subsequent attack by the USS Titan-A that was aimed at buying Earth more time. Along with the rest of the fleet, the Stargazer was freed of Borg control when the Enterprise-D rescued Jack and destroyed the Borg cube that was transmitting the command signal. Alternate timelines and realities
In an alternate timeline, the USS Stargazer was destroyed by the auto-destruct during the encounter with the Singularity on the orders of Admiral Jean-Luc Picard. However, Q transported several crewmembers into the Confederation of Earth timeline. This timeline was averted when Q returned everyone to moments before the explosion and, realizing the Borg Queen's identity, Picard cancelled the auto-destruct. Alternate reality
In the alternate reality created by a temporal incursion by Nero in 2233, the USS Stargazer (NCC-2893) was departing from Starbase Yorktown during the USS Enterprise's visit. (Star Trek Beyond)
