Spar

The spar was a thick, strong piece of timber used for the mast or yard on a sailing ship.

Geordi La Forge noted that his model of the HMS Victory had a cracked spar after the USS Enterprise-D was shaken by James Moriarty, but otherwise "she weathered it quite nicely." (TNG: "Elementary, Dear Data")
