Rudder
A rudder was the part of a sailing vessel that was directly controlled by a steering wheel that, together, directed the way water flows around the ship, and thus caused a change in direction.
In 2293, James T. Kirk, captain of the USS Enterprise-A, ordered Valeris to put the ship at "Right standard rudder" in order to "bring us alongside", during a rendezvous with the Klingon flagship Kronos One. To perform this maneuver, Valeris had to adjust the ship to "Z plus five degrees". (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)
