Space warfare
As an individual, group, nation, or other entity developed space technology, there came the threat or risk of combat and warfare involving the use of space. Attacks could be ground-to-space, such as the launching of a torpedo from a planetary surface to a spacefaring spacecraft or artificial satellite in orbit; space-to-space, such as a weaponized spacecraft or space station attacking another spacecraft or station; and space-to-ground, such as the orbital bombardment of a planetary surface. A battle which took place in space was known as a space battle.
In 2259, while the USS Enterprise was in the center of a gas giant and hiding from enemy Gorn, Captain Christopher Pike noted in his captain's log that there were three civilian and seven crew that had lost their lives, but he considered the battle to be far from over. (SNW: "Memento Mori")
In 2372, there were twenty deaths in Mabus' group after the Kazon attacked them in space. (VOY: "Alliances")
In 2375, Naomi Wildman described herself to holographic character Trevis as an explorer who lived in space. When asked by Trevis what being an explorer was like, she replied "space battles with aliens" and "strange anomalies". (VOY: "Once Upon a Time")
In 2376, the inhabitants of Kelemane's planet launched antimatter torpedoes and a tricobalt device at the USS Voyager which was stuck in orbit. (VOY: "Blink of an Eye")
