The source code was a form of programming code that stored information about a computer file.

Investigating the video evidence of Lieutenant Spock murdering medical personnel of the psychiatric ward on Starbase 5, Admiral Katrina Cornwell was convinced the video was not a forgery by checking the source code. She reiterated this point to Captain Christopher Pike when he questioned the video's validity. (DIS: "Project Daedalus")
