Vega
Vega, also known as Alpha Lyrae or 3 Lyrae, was an inhabited planetary system in the Alpha Quadrant.
With a magnitude of 1, it was the fifth brightest star in Earth's night sky. In the northern summer sky, this star, along with Altair and Deneb, were the corners of the "Summer Triangle".
Components
Stellar system
This was a single star system. The primary star Vega (the proper name for Alpha Lyrae) was an A-type dwarf. It was a Delta Scuti variable star. (ENT: "Cold Front")
Planetary system
In this system, there were at least nine planets, including Vega IX, and a large asteroid field. One of these planets was home to the Vega colony. (TOS: "The Menagerie, Part I", "Mirror, Mirror"; SNW: "A Quality of Mercy")
History
The space station Cold Station 12 was located in the Vega system in the 2150s. Its position was seen on a United Earth star chart.
This station was built into an asteroid in the asteroid field. This facility was operated by the Interspecies Medical Exchange. During the Augment Crisis in 2154, this asteroid field was the site of a battle between Enterprise NX-01 and a Klingon Bird-of-Prey hijacked by Arik Soong's Augments (ENT: "Cold Station 12")

Stellar cartography
The Vega system was visible from Earth in the constellation Lyra. This system was approximately 25 light years from Sol.
In the 2150s, this system's position was labeled on an United Earth star chart which was displayed in several crew and guest quarters aboard the Enterprise. (Star Trek: Enterprise, set decoration))
In 2259, the location of Vega was labeled on a stellar cartography chart seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. Vega's symbol had a blue color, indicating its affiliation with the United Federation of Planets. (SNW: "A Quality of Mercy")
On stardate 1292.4, this system's position was labeled in a chart used during a Section 31 Alpha Team briefing. (Star Trek: Section 31)
The location of Vega was depicted on a star chart in astrometrics on the USS Voyager in 2376. (VOY: "Child's Play"; TOS: "Mirror, Mirror")
The system's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan-A in 2401. Vega was in or near to Federation space. (PIC: "Maps and Legends", "The Next Generation", "Disengage")
In 2401, the location of Vega was labeled on a star chart that was seen on the USS Stargazer's bridge viewscreen. The chart was used to show the location of the combined Starfleet-Borg armada and where it needed to go to face a galactic-level threat. (PIC: "Farewell")
In 3190, the location of Vega was labeled on a star chart used by Commander Paul Stamets for tracking the movement of the Dark Matter Anomaly through the galaxy. (DIS: "The Examples")

Background information
Information on this system was derived from the episodes and films, from the reference works Star Trek: Star Charts and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library, and from real world sources. The reference works were used extensively in the creation of star charts seen in Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Star Trek: Lower Decks.
In the Star Trek: Star Charts (pp. 36, 44, 57; "United Federation of Planets I") and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), it was stated that in the 19th century this system was the capital system of the Vegan Tyranny (β). In the mid-22nd century, this system was an important trading destination on the Earth trade routes, and it traded with Draylax and Sol. In 2254, the Enterprise traveled to the system after visiting the Talos star group. In the late 24th century, the system was a destination on a major space lane.
There existed a picture of Steven Lance, who played a Rhaandarite, identifying him as a being from the planet Vega. This might be linked to early mentions of Vegans in the crowd. [1]
The star chart seen in the series Star Trek: Enterprise made its first appearance in Crewman Daniels quarters in "Cold Front". It was also seen in several other episodes of the series, from 2151 to 2154. (For more information, see Federation star charts#United Earth Alpha/Beta star chart)
Apocrypha
In the 1977 children's storybook The Prisoner of Vega, Klingons capture Queen Vanadala of Vega III and take over her planet.
In the game Star Trek Online, the Vega system was the site of a renewed Borg attack in 2409, and where the tutorial for Federation players takes place.
