The Almatha sector was a region of space in the Alpha Quadrant. Within this sector, there was an area of Cardassian space that bordered the Demilitarized Zone under the command of Gul Toran. Border outposts 47 and 61 were located in this sector.

In 2371, after Thomas Riker stole the USS Defiant, his entry point into Cardassian space was through the Almatha sector. (DS9: "Defiant")

Background information

This sector's quadrant of origin is inferred based on the position of the Cardassian Union as seen in the star chart appearing in the Star Trek: Picard episode "Maps and Legends".

"AL-mah-thuh" was the pronunciation for this sector's name from the script pronunciation guide. [1]

According to StarTrek.com, this sector was named after the Cardassian star Almatha. [2](X)

According to Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 47) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Stellar Cartography", pp. 18-19; "Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"; "The Dominion War: Strategy and Battles, 2373-75"), within this sector, there was a star system named Almatha, from which possibly the sector's name was derived. The system's primary was a K-class star. According to a map of the Cardassian Union – prepared by an anonymous astrography clerk, from the Cardassian Central Archives, in 2364 – Almatha was identified as a Cardassian system.
