Cuttable plant

Cuttable plants are a type of obstacle appearing in many core series games, commonly found on grassy routes and in or around forests. To get past them, the player must use the help of a Pokémon to cut them down. They appear in Generations I through VI and in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, in which they can be cut down using the field move Cut, and in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, in which they can be cut down using the Secret Technique Chop Down.
In Generations I through V and in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, cuttable plants are small, skinny trees. In Generation VI, they are thorny bushes. In Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, they are small plants but sprawl widely to obstruct the player.

Trivia
|
This page is in need of spading. See its section on the spading page for more information, and how you can help. Reason: Can the Gym Trainers in Celadon Gym challenge the player even after defeating Erika? This would mean blacking out through poison damage is not required, just blacking out in general. |
- In Generation I, trees that had been cut down would regenerate if the game was saved and reset, even if the player was still in the area, allowing the player to stand on a tree. This was fixed in later generations.
- In Generation I, the minimum number of trees to cut to complete the main story is 5. This assumes that the player defeats Koga before Lt. Surge, since Vermilion Gym can also be accessed with Surf.
- The tree on Route 9.
- The tree in Celadon City, which blocks the way to Celadon Gym (must be cut twice, since it regrows after reloading the map)
- The tree in Celadon Gym, which blocks the way to Erika (must be cut twice, since it regrows after reloading the map)
- Should the player black out due to poison damage while in the section with Erika, this tree only has to be cut once, lowering the number of required Cut uses to 3.
- In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, that number is 4, since the cut trees in Celadon Gym don't regrow until the player reenters. Cut must also be used to open the Dotted Hole door, should the player wish to do the Ruby and Sapphire quest, increasing the number of required Cut uses in the overworld to 5.
